You cannot put students into a holding school until there is a renovation underway. There is no money for a renovation. Therefore crown would just sit empty. Wootton would continue to deteriorate with even less money county wide. Wootton being a holding school under H isn’t actually happening for a good 5-8 years. |

When I try to explain this to friends in other states their jaws drop at the lunacy. My kids' high school has been falling apart for over a decade and delayed and denied renovations bc of the lack of $$, and now they will be relocated to a new school just a few miles away in just one year instead of waiting several years for renovations - and people are complaining about this victory? What?! And what has been made very clear in their public comments and in person today is that it's not even mostly about perceived property values. It's about garbage racism and ignorance. They think Crown is some distant scary "urban" place and that a few hundred Crown kids will somehow ruin their kids academically. It's like listening to the rantings of a MAGA reddit board.

Indeed. Wootton families are aligning with some Moms4Liberty nutjobs to keep their case relevant. |
Seems like you missed it but Cold Spring wanted to go to Churchill. They don’t need your help |
Are you mad that Washingtonian woods has better houses than you? |
That will backfire real quick. |
You are lucky. Many kids are stuck in their falling apart facilities with no plans for renovations. We'd take a new building in a heartbeat. |

"So move students there who are geographically close not the ones who will need to spend 40 minutes on a bus each way. It’s nonsensical to move Cold Springs to Churchill and make Churchill at 112% capacity and move the rest of Wootton to Crown. Does not help with overcrowding at RM or Churchill, in fact it makes it worse. The purpose of the boundary study was to prioritize geography not make it worse .Why should I pay for their idiotic mistake and lack of foresight?"
It's about 3.6-4 miles from Wootton to Crown. 10-15 minute drive. With bus, 25-30 minutes max, just like many other Wootton kids currently take to get to Wootton. I can't believe we're debating whether taking a bus is some hardship. It's the way kids get to school. Only a tiny group ever have the privilege to walk. It used to be you. Now it's someone else's turn. Life moves on. Your kids won't have health issues from riding a school bus for 25 minutes. I promise. |

"While y’all are busy fighting back and forth, can someone share some of the actual Q&A from the event?"
There were a bunch of questions from the moderator at first, covering not just boundary stuff but also the shooting and safety. Unfortunately the rowdy crowd kept on shouting and interrupting. There was a lot of time for questions from the crowd too, and that devolved quickly. New things I learned: Taylor seemed to indicate that the walkable zone would be looked at and adjusted if BOE approves the Recommendation. He also seemed to support the MS alignment proposal Yang made. Wootton would be maintained even during the times it's not a holding school. |
The buses are included |
| In the past decade+, did anyone in Kensington complain about the 40 minute bus ride to WJ? |
| I hope there is a release of a video version of the meeting so the rest of us can see it. Does anyone know if MCPS recorded it? I heard it was a bunch of parents yelling on top of each other. |
Someone send it to the Wootton hs kids so they can shame their parents for terrible behavior in public |
There is nowhere in Fallsmead or Lakewood boundaries that is a 40 minute school bus ride one way to Crown. |
I cam see Lakewood from my house but my kids are zoned to RM cluster. Horizon Hill can see Wootton from their backyards and don't go to Wootton. What is your point?? |
