What time do you expect to see green dots each morning?

you don't worry that your boss thinks you are actually away?

Get fired for the dot not showing green? That’s ridiculous. The manager will be sued!

HR/IT at my organization monitors logins and activities, not the green dot

I’m not interested in booking a meeting with admins.

Well, not PP, but I book meetings with admins all the time when I need certain kinds of support and need to discuss details.

At what point do you start to wonder about someone’s productivity?

At what point do you get frustrated?

For some jobs I will concede that this is genuinely important. Like lots of back and forth, touching base, that kind of thing. If so, just call or message no matter what color the dot is. If they're available like they should be, it will ding through on their phone, etc. If it takes them two hours to get back in (what is supposed to be) a high speed collaborative environment, then you have their answer.

"Your dot was yellow so I couldn't call you or message you" is not true. Go ahead and call or message and see what you get. That's what I do.

This ^.

This seems off. Our administration staff is among the busiest. A good admin is worth their weight in gold.

Um…obviously.

But what about the admin who appears to be offline all the time?

You email them or call them as needed. When they don't respond or pick up -- they get a warning. Next time you have the same problem -- start considering a PIP.

What someone "appears to be" ... whether that is "offline" while they should be on or whatever ... is irrelevant. I would start noticing though, for sure, if the employee were a problem, especially if the problem was that they weren't available when they should be.

Cut your team slack if the work gets done. And gets done well. Easy.

I only check dots before I want to call someone so I can make sure they’re not presenting or on a call.

I’m there at 7. At the latest by 9, but there are so many slackers at my office.

I am in the office working. He can see it.

It was so much easier to get in touch with people when we were all teleworking full time. I almost always got instant responses when I messaged or called people on Teams. Now that we're back in the office four days per week, everyone is much less available -- they're at in-person meetings, gabbing with coworkers, at long lunches, etc.

my dot is usually red. but otherwise teams will turn yellow if i'm not actively in teams-- working in a spreadsheet for an hour? too bad, teams thinks you're idle/away. it's a stupid way to judge availability.

I have a co-worker who always sets her status to "Busy" so the red dot shows. Realistically, I know she is busy watching YouTube videos, yelling at her kids, doing laundry, etc.

But by setting her status as "Busy" she seems to have everyone else fooled into believing she's somehow being productive.

It's been working for her for years...

One of my admins is old school and doesn't like teams so it's alway away or not even on. But she picks up when I call and does whatever is needed. And she's been around long enough she knows what needs to be done 90% of the time anyway. My time is better spent on work and not monitoring dots.
