SMACS is Science, Mathematics, and Computer Science. It's the STEM magnets at Blair (for Down County) and Poolesville (Up County). General consensus is that Watkins Mill IB is not as good as the County-Wide Program at Richard Montgomery. It's to be determined how good the new programs will be, since they're expanding the programs from 2 schools to 6. I think it's going to be a rough start, but maybe once my kids have kids, it'll be well-established... |

| Under the proposal, will all Wootton kids - even juniors and seniors - move to the Crown location for the 2027-28 school year? I know the general idea is not to change boundaries for juniors and seniors, but I'm not sure if a change in building is the same thing? It seems silly to move only the freshmen and sophomores since that would make it harder to fill classes, form sports teams, etc., so hoping that's not the plan! |

Dufief should be happy with this plan. The rest of Wootton did not care about you all - if one of the initial options was chosen you would have gone to QO but now you are still with Wootton with another ES (Fields Rd) added. Dufief kids were bussed anyways and now you get a brand new school. As a Gaithersburg resident it sucks that we don't get access to Crown. They have to keep Crown in Region 5 at least some kids will get access through Regional magnets |

This. How is it that 3 schools in Region 5 are highest FARMS schools with 2 of them upcounty's largest FARMS schools - 50% each. Where is the cohort for Region 5? My kid will lose access to Poolesville. QO needs to be with Region 6 and Damascus back with Region 5. How do they justify Laytonsville ES going to Poolesville while Thurgood Marshall gets the cut. |

Oh. I hadn’t thought of that but yes, you are probably right. The upperclassmen from Wootton will move. I don’t think the upperclassmen from the other handful of feeders will move, though, since their schools will still be open. I think Taylor really wanted to use Crown as a permanent holding school as his first choice but it appears that that was not legally allowed. So even though there is a lot of dissent from Wootton (props to their advocacy) it really is fiscally irresponsible to run an entire 27th additional high school and have all the others underutilized. |

Do you see that specifically for Wootton? I know only 9th and 10th graders will face the boundary changes, but I couldn't figure out what would happen with the change in building for Wootton kids, which seems like a different thing. The articulation charts make it look like Wootton will be empty for the 2027-2028 school year (see page 28 of 35 at https://go.boarddocs.com/mabe/mcpsmd/Board.nsf/files/DQZPB463C37A/$file/Supt%20Rec%20Crown%20Damascus%20260205.pdf). But I haven't read the whole document so hoping someone else found something more definitive! |

But that is only about reassignments. Wootton students are, except for Cold Spring, not being reassigned. So all students assigned to Wootton for 27-28 will attend Wootton @ Crown. |
