Just wanted to let all prospective families to tread carefully or ask questions before you accept. Duke Ellington kids have been in a lot of bad fights with kids from other schools lately to the point the police have to get involved. I don’t want to say too much, but I just wanted families here to know what’s going on so they can ask the administration about this recent surge in violence.

I empathize with other theater parents. I am thankful we finally got a vocal invitation. A much simple process and we were finally invited. Theater was a total of four auditions including 3 missing more than half school days. Thankfully my child took the news better than I thought for someone who kept getting excellent feedback.

I’m another DESA parent and besides the beef with MacArthur before winter break, I haven’t heard about anything since. The thing with MacArthur involved specific kids from a specific department. There was a fight with Hardy (MIDDLE SCHOOL!) this week. DESA kids had weapons. There will be a police presence next week. The DESA kids are out of control. Not all of them, obviously, but a significant group.

Thank you for confirming. I didn’t have precise details so didn’t want to start rumors unless I had the full facts. To the person who “doubted” my account when I came on here to warn people out of good will, do better.

Thanks for this info. Theater applicant parent here. Gtk to ask about zero tolerance on weapons and if students were expelled. Unacceptable.

I almost didn’t say anything because I knew there were going to be people (as there were) who called me a liar etc. I felt that prospective parents should know this information and be fully informed, with the caveat that I wasn’t prepared to share everything until the facts came out. I hope there is more clarity from all the schools in the coming days.

My hardy student is afraid to go to school on Monday because DESA kids apparently threatened to “shoot up Hardy”

I am not sure what to do, whether to keep them home or not
