Yes. Initial interview and then an arts block visit so far.

You mean the afternoon workshop? But no news after that?

Yes, the afternoon workshop is the arts block at the school. No news since then.

The order: Audition then callbacks then quite a bit later, family interviews. Then a decision. Family interviews are still part of the audition fyi.

Maybe things have changed, I have a senior now, but when my DD was applying if you got to the family interview that is really about making sure the student and family understand the level of commitment required and the very long day. Assuming no surprises that is a very good sign.

Good luck all, DESA is not perfect but it has been a great fit for my student.

That may have been your perception, but while the family interview may focus on commitment, etc, you need to know that you are absolutely not in because you got a family interview and that it can absolutely also be a dealbreaker. Tell your kid especially not to sit there and let parents do all the talking.

This is all really good to know. Crossing fingers for a family interview!

Have any vocal program applicants heard about family interviews?

Also waiting for this program. Any idea how many kids were at the audition last week? 10 the first day so similar the second? They didn’t tell us on the 11th how many they may accept. Looks like last year it was 18 matches for 33 avail seats. Year before was 21 for 33 seats. But not sure what, if anything, that means for this year.

I heard there are about 30-35 kids that have auditioned for Vocal but no idea on seats. Anyone heard about family interviews? Seems like they are being sent for other programs - CAMP and Dance for sure.

We're right there with you but waiting on Theater and Instrumental.

It’s the not knowing that is stressful. I wish they had told us when family interviews would be for each program. It would have helped set expectations for our kid (and us).

Still hoping for interview for theater after missing school for multiple half day auditions. we're thinking it's bad news we haven't heard, since others have been invited for their interview. Congrats to all who make it through this grueling process!

I emailed and was told all interview invites had gone out for theater. Our kid is crushed. The process is shitty—4 call backs that were each a half day and then an after school workshop.

Was coming here to say vocal family interview invites went out today but saw the above note on theater. I’m really sorry. I hope your kid is ok. Such a rough process.

We haven’t heard much from instrumental. Do we know if those invites have all gone out as well?

Sorry, your kid had to go to 4 half day auditions and a workshop?

Yes, unfortunately. Lots of tears tonight. Good luck to all.
