I have no interest in Purdue but this is not even arguable. It is the strongest engineering school in Indiana by a mile. |
Same for my son |
It’s one of the strongest in the entire country. Definitely in top 10 |

Our DD was deferred. We are from the dmv area. She applied to engineering and the letter said if we were interested in a faster admission decision we could accept a spot in Purdue Indianoplis campus. Anyone else receive this kind of deferred letter? Also what is the indianoplis campus like as An undergraduate?

What are her stats? |
1510 (790 math) .weighted 4.5 gpa. Magnet high school. Part time job all four years. Summer internship at a high reputable research institute, 1000 volunteer hours, great essay (or so we thought, maybe it wasn’t so great).2-3 other after school EC, and a sport all four years. |
Impressive profile. I’m sure she’ll get into a great college. Just needs to be a little patient. |
You might want to dig a little deeper. Purdue admits freshman into first year engineering (FYE). All FYE students regardless of being in honors must apply to their major. A 3.2 GPA guarantee's Aero but only after completing two semesters. Any application to major (T2M in Purdue speak) after that is competitive and likely requires a significantly higher GPA. Please look carefully at requirements to transfer to major at Purdue or any other engineering school as it varies and your kid might not want to risk getting into the major of choice. Purdue is notorious for weed-out classes, difficult grading and a grind culture. My kid loves it, but it's not for everyone. |
Absolutely agree! Solid school is Ohio State, VA tech, case western, they are in around top 30 for engineering.. Purdue is on the first 10. Especially for aerospace |
is it hard to have a good gpa? |
In at Honors College with almost identical stats. |
And that's the million dollar question. My kid is exceeding expectations but he is working very hard. He said that the classes are humbling for everyone. I wasn't a big fan of the secondary admission process for engineering at Lafayette, but my son made the decision. |
I know it is fye for Purdue. Son intends to major in aerospace, though I suspect he may also change his mind as he gets to know other engineering. Though he has been building his own rockets and mixing fuels since middle school. |
Did they ask you to demonstrate interest in the letter? |
| Anyone applied to EA computer science? result and stats, please. thanks. |
