Black enrollment falls below 8% for every top 20 ranked liberal arts college in the country

My question is why some of the 100% schools don’t seem to have that category — and some do. Are they all from the same source?

Yes, it's all from the Common Data Set 2024-2025 for the entering Class of 2028. The percent of undefined can vary considerably from school to school. Bowdoin for instance adds up to 100% because they only had 2 out of 507 enrolling first years as "race unknown".

Thanks.

I analyzed the entering statistics for the Class of 2024 across the USNews top 20 ranked, non-military LACs. The domestic black population has fallen greatly across many LACs, especially Amherst, which once broke a record among all top colleges and universities at nearly 20% Black enrollment. It's also interesting that the domestic Asian percent seems to drop rapidly once you go past the top 10 LACs.

Most of the T30 will soon be plurality-Asian.

We will not be able to reverse that until DEIA is restored (maybe after 2028?).

2028 is when Don the con piggy is fully king if he lasts that long. If not him some other shit. Electitons are over for this country. People need to wake up that ship has sailed. MAGA stupids gave Republicans the country and there is no going back. Our courts will not hold and the Republican party is too treasonous.

But that’s the crux of the problem. The republicans have dismantled DEI on every level, allowing the massive increase of Asians into our universities.

I don’t see what the problem is.

Let me preface this by saying that there are many, many, many nice, "normal," well-socialized and assimilated Asian people out there. They are some of my closest friends. But stereotypes exist for a reason.

That being said, schools will continue to use essays, recs, activities, etc. to weed out the stereotypical "4.0/ 1600/ chess/ violin/ fencing/ highly curated summer schedule/ never watched TV or went to a game in their lives" Asian kids who people are so afraid of taking over the world. Some might argue that if the world was a "meritocracy" then schools would be full of them. I think people will increasingly start opting out of those schools because life is about more than that. YMMV.

You may now attack.

And yet parents here will still blame black people on all of their children's failures in education and employment.

No need to attack. You embarrass yourself with this drivel.

I know of a black kid currently at Harvey Mudd, so I guess that makes me pretty special as there are very, very few. Let's just say this kid is far from FGLI.

I wish the schools would stop even asking these questions. I'm not some anti-DEI Trumper but it is doing more harm than good. If you are concerned whether there are people like you at the school, go look around.

The US is 20% Hispanic, and the classification for the Hispanic category favors it because the other categories are all "non-hispanic" (e.g. if you're mixed race Hispanic, you get placed in the Hispanic box and not in multiracial).

So actually, they're underrepresented across the board relative to the census. Even at the top performers like Pomona and Harvey Mudd, California is nearly 40% Hispanic and LA County is 50% Hispanic, so their Hispanic numbers are quite a bit lower than the region overall.

Lies, darn lies, statistics. What percentage of the hispanic population is remotely interested in college? I'm not saying this to be nasty, racist or rude. It is just a fact. So those numbers are meaningless.

Colleges are tripping over themselves to virtue signal. I'm a Democrat. I am generally supportive of diversity. But I don't disagree that it has gone way overboard and become an obsession.

It has become an obsession of white males and Charlie Kirk types for social media clicks. Even guys like JD Vance weigh in.

Percentage of blacks at top schools are relatively low to begin with, and those accepted are academically qualified.

I tried to be even-handed and diplomatic. You call me Charlie Kirk and JD Vance. This is what is wrong with America. I'm closer to you politically than the vast majority of America. I voted for Biden and hate Trump.

As long as schools are publishing these numbers, they will get scrutinized like in threads like this so will feel required to bolster their minority numbers. As a result, though many will be well qualified, there will be plenty who aren't. And that's not OK. As I said, I believe in diversity (though you have accused me of being racist and evil). If there is a true "tie" then I would choose the minority candidate. But that was no longer the case.

And then once they get to the school the schools are spending a fortune to give them special treatment to feel comfortable and/or isolate themselves from the rest of campus (see Amherst).

Let's focus policy efforts on improving K-12 education for minority students so there is a better funnel of well-prepared kids applying. We are making progress at that, but you can't force it.

The problem is we need DEIA restored to stop the increasing percentage of Asian/Indian students gaining admission to the T50 universities.

Please note that there are a lot of people who are posting in this thread so some of us who might seem to be directionally the same in our perspective really aren't.

Perhaps they are now. They definitely weren’t in the past.

Your writing style is interesting. LAC educated ?

these lac threads are getting tiresome. they need a separate forum so the 3 people who care about these unknown schools can discuss further

Not true.

Now do the mediorce lax bros and legacy kids. Nothing to say, right? Address systematic inequalities instead of running your mouth as a MAGA in white liberal concern troll clothing.
