| No tips but support, OP. It took my son a year to find a “real” job post-graduation, and it certainly isn’t his dream job. Help him hang in there. |
|
He should work his network. Has he contacted the professors he knows from college to see if they can make any introductions? Has he contacted his college career center? They should still be willing to work with him. He should also go to alumni events for his college and network.
If he doesn't have a job now, he should substitute teach and tutor. Hopefully he can make contacts with parents to get an entry point. |

Research Assistant jobs at the Fed only require a Bachelor's degree. They are also a plum on a resume. Separately, the FRB also have computing related positions listed under the IT category. |
| Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac do not have a great reputation for IT work, but they also hire a few entry-level Economists and those positions have a better rep. Worth a try. |
| End of summer graduation - it's been two months and you're freaking out? Please chill, it's not helping him. Job hunting is terrible right now and two months is nothing. |
Not even six months yet. It takes time to find a good job. Try not to act “panicked” in front of your son. I really think this is entirely normal. Help him not get discouraged. Kids right now have a hard time, in part because of all of the government cuts in research, cuts to universities , layoffs, tariffs. I feel bad for them. Try to build up your son and convince him you have confidence in his potential. |
| He needs to give it more time. Be thankful he is not a 50-year old federal worker who was laid off with a mortgage and kids. |
| There’s always law enforcement. |
Better than the last one. |
| It's really tough out there. Many employers are replacing entry-level positions with AI. |
Thank you, PP! This is so awesome. |

Did he have internships? Those are so important.
To all the parents on here of high school senior or college aged-kids-your kids need internships. Some internships have applications a year+ ahead. OP, universities count work experience 6 months out from graduation. If kid graduated in May has until end of November. It takes awhile. Are there any internships currently he can apply for while also working or looking for work? You say the university isn't helping-your kid should reach out to professors they worked with who might be able to help with ideas/connections/internship opportunities. This means your kid will need to have good relationship with one of them. Alumni-use the alumni network. Connect with alumni, kid should attend alumni events in area for university and let them know looking and for what exactly. They need concrete asks or ask for informational interviews, etc. Don't act panicked in front of your kid. A good job takes time, but also for others if your kid is a senior in college this year they should be applying/networking for jobs after graduation now. Don't wait until spring or after. |

Our own government provides hundreds of thousands of h1bs And hundreds of thousands of opts Cheap foreign labor to replace our own children When will people actually care about our own neighbors??? |
750k H-1b in force, majority in tech. 250k H-4 EAD work permits for their spouses. L1+L2 spouses 375k OPT/STEM OPT - 242k 7 million Green Card holders and other visa types working in STEM. And i'm not covering it all... Pile on outsourcing (300k jobs a year) and offshoring (over 2 million in India alone). Wake up - this is a huge problem. H-1B has just become a shorthand for the problem. Fyi, we approved 140k H-1Bs last year cuz universities and nonprofits are 'uncapped'. All taking jobs from US citizens , and yet people don’t care until it happens to them |
