| What kind of engineering? |
| Army corps of engineers, OP. He could retire by 40. |
|
NRO is hiring. Has a waiver to still hire engineers. US citizens only.

| Wouldn't use the current admin as an excuse to not look at certain opportunities in the military especially with an engineering degree. By the time you go through the process and training the admin will be on its way out anyway. |
This. Great way to that needed experience too. |
| OP, if it makes you feel better, my neighbor's kid majored in Economics with a minor in Computer Science from a flagship university. He had a one year, term limited job after graduation but has been unemployed since June. It's rough out there for recent grads, even for some who study the "right" things. |
Take it to politics. |
Very similar story with my nephew. |
Go to www.cna.org. Opening right now specifically for an Economist. CS background will be a plus. Hiring is not frozen. Position is in Arlington 1 block from the MetroRail Orange and Silver lines. US citizens only. Anyone else have a new grad that needs a job? Post their degree/field and I will see what I can find. |
You can do this starting right from high school and during summers in college. I worked as a research scientist for many years and we always had aspiring students come to get research experience in the lab either through internship programs or by directly contacting us. |
| Sorry OP. The job market is horrible right now. He is not alone, a lot of recent college grads are in the same boat, including those who had jobs lined up that were rescinded. |
| If he just graduated this past summer, he should apply for an internship. It is sometimes easier to get a non-summer internship. I do know a few kids who had no job lined up, took internships after graduation (and filled in any empty time with other jobs like retail) and then were able to turn the internship into a full time offer. |
1000% of your child wants to advance in technology the government is the way to go. Starting as an officer will ensure growth. |
The Economist (Research Analyst) jobs at CNA (including the one that is open now) requires a minimum of a Master's Degree. That isn't negotiable. |

One quick tip for anyone job hunting.
If one is a US Citizen, then list that explicitly on one's resume, probably at the end. If one is a US Permanent Resident, aka Green Card, then list that - along with one's citizenship - again probably at the end. Lots of employers cannot legally ask directly about citizenship or PR status, but are not willing to sponsor anyone for a work visa. By making clear the basis of one's right to work in the US legally, chances of a followup from a recruiter are higher. |
