Is trying to get late checkout always such a drag?

How late do you want to checkout?

Marriott platinum are guaranteed 4pm checkout.

Subject to availability at resorts and convention hotels.

Yes it is. It is still below titanium and ambassador and above silver and gold.

I’ve never had an issue with Hilton or IHG and I only have mid tier status and even that was only because I have their credit cards.

Do you mean they give you late checkout the night before? And how many hrs?

The night before they usually tell you to check in the morning. IHG will give you until 2pm if they can. Hilton will more commonly offer us noon.

Thank you! Sorry for being so particular but what time in the morning do they mean?

It’s not like a set time. We usually ask around 8:30 or 9am when we wake up. But it’s not a big deal if we don’t get it. Why is this so intense for you? Either you get it or you don’t and you move on.

Not a big deal.
I was thrown off by the 6 am suggestion from the evening ppl though.
I just want to know when people usually ask

You sound so entitled and whiny. No one is owed late check-out. So either you get with the program, or you pay for one more night.

They need to tell me yes or no. Or the time when I should ask again.

Often, like any business, they want to know what exactly you're asking for.
Quite often, if you at least suggest you know there could be a cost, they aren't as annoyed you want something for free. Now that they aren't annoyed with you, often they will grant it free if they can.

Great suggestion, thanks

NP here. For me sometimes it's a big deal because I want to sleep in and relax. Or got to the hotel swimming pool and then come back and shower and pack. Other times I want to have a place to take work calls, etc.

Then rent the room for another night. Don't you think everyone in the hotel would like the same thing? Why should you be the special one?

I would be annoyed too if I was told specifically to call at 6am and when I did, was told they won't know until after 8 am. Unless they were apologetic and admitted they had been wrong to ask me to call so early.

Platinum is in the center position on Marriott's status system, hence mid-tier.

For United Airlines, Platinum happens also to be mid-tier -- below Global Services and 1K but above silver and gold.

Yea, I'd laugh at you too. You're practically staying an extra day at that point.

No. Wants a 3pm checkout (same as std check in time) from a 12 noon std checkout. 12 noon std checkout is pretty common.

Uh, those are the same apples. She wants 3 hours, no matter what time. Will never happen and might even turn hotel staff off so they reject her outright.

If they give too many people late check out, then all the people who want early check in the next night will not get it, if they have high occupancy.

We are working on ways to make this more digital and automated in my large hotel company. (Hilton, Marriott, choice, etc)

I always thought the issue was leaving the staff idle when they run out of rooms to clean when they could be sent home off the clock when they finished. Why is early check in for people who aren't there yet prioritized over late checkout for people who are there?

The person who thinks the housekeepers will be “left idle” and will “run out of rooms to clean”, they typically clean 14-17 rooms per shift. They don’t have a lot of down time. The room has to be cleaned after you use it, regardless of when you check out that day. And if there is low occupancy they just won’t have a lot of housekeepers on staff to begin with.

I said that because I was told it by hotel staff once upon a time. It was probably 15+ years ago, though.

Post-Covid, I've gotten late checkout 90+% of the times I've requested it. I usually ask in the late evening and have only been told to check in the morning once or twice. Typically just want noon, although once I asked for and got 1:00 at a Hilton Garden Inn. I have Silver or Silver Elite (I think ?) status with Hilton and IHG, whatever tier requires 10 nights but fewer than or 20 or 30.

Oops, I meant the latest I've gotten is 2:00 at Holiday Inn Express, although I actually left at 1:30.
