This.
Nobody cares about illegals being deported except the people that exploit them.

BS

Sorry you lost your cheap house laborers, now you will have to pay a living wage to someone who is a citizen.

Yes I’ve always associated the right wing nativists with the “living wage” movement.

So you admit you like slave labor and paying cheap rates. Interesting.

This is nonsense made up fantasy and isn't a thing. Nobody is doing this for the express purposes you state.

We all have passport cards in our family. It’s smart to have in the absence of a national ID card. If ICE or and rando stops us I like having proof.

That's basically what DL's are, even if issued by the states, because they all have to be REAL ID licenses now that prove US citizenship.

So that's all you need on the ridiculous chance you are even stopped.

Real ID does not prove citizenship.

You must show legit birth certificate and SS cards to get real ID, but be facially scanned and put into A.I. facial recognition database.

Real ID is not proof of US citizenship. You need a passport for that.

Thinking about getting the passport card (already have passports and really wish we'd just gotten the cards too last time we renewed).

Two of us are naturalized non-white citizens via adoption. Just a lot easier to carry around a passport card rather than a naturalization certificate and a certificate of citizenship (and a lot cheaper too).

No, but I probably would if were weren't all white.

We have actual passports and our my husband insisted on bringing them for our kids when we knew we’d be passing a checkpoint this Labor Day weekend. We have driver’s licenses as adults but our kids don’t obviously.

No. I'm very white. If anyone detains me, a third-generation American, I will sue their asses.

US citizens are not required to carry proof of citizenship. However, it’s not a bad idea these days. CBP claims the right to stop anyone without needing probable cause or reasonable suspicion for a 100-mile border zone. The zone covers a wide swath of the US, including the DMV.

CBP can ask you about your citizenship during a stop. Although there is no requirement to prove it, I would not mess with this in the current environment. Not all states include citizenship on the REAL ID. Get a passport card. Anyone who is here legally and is not a citizen should be carrying proof that they are in the US legally.

A summary of the legal basis for these stops is here: https://www.aclutx.org/en/know-your-rights/border-pocket-guide

The posters upthread saying they will sue if they are stopped—good luck with that in this environment.

A lot of people are dumb too. I'd bet there's a lot of overlap between these groups.

Yes true but there are many news stories about ICE picking up citizens (particularly Hispanic ones) and placing them in detention for days despite the citizen insisting they’re a citizen until someone calls a lawyer to get them out. No one wants to take a risk in this “shoot first, ask questions later” environment, particularly for kids.

I always have my concealed carry permit. That proves citizenship. Problem solved.

You might want to consider getting one, real ID not proof of citizenship and they can detain you until you prove citizenship.

Its not legal to make anyone prove citizenship who is already a citizen.

ICE does not care.

Obviously.
I think people are saying that having a passport card will not change anything, which I believe is true.
The Due Process clause is dead because the President says so.

Trump admin don’t need to carry passports. The majority of them are white LOL
Seems like having the passport card would not have kept your neighbor from being stopped.
Be specific. What does “not look like a US citizen!” Even mean?

You’re twisting the narrative. We all know you want to deport people based on skin tone. Deflecting doesn’t change that.

What does a US citizen look like?

This is one of things Trump is doing at the check points- taking guns always and arresting people who carry. You would need a CCP for DC
