You might want to consider getting one, real ID not proof of citizenship and they can detain you until you prove citizenship.

Its not legal to make anyone prove citizenship who is already a citizen.

We are long past that point.

My H renewed his passport earlier this year and got a passport card to carry in his wallet. He is not white.

We always get them when we renew passports. We use them as ID for TSA and such. Driver's license we don't keep digging out when traveling because losing it is a pita for car rentals.
Maybe we should carry ours now.
Sad turn for the country.

A girl in our neighborhood in NW DC was stopped because she did not look like a US citizen. Is anyone else planning on getting their?

I don’t plan on carrying my passport with me, but I would for sure have one at the ready these days.

This.
Nobody cares about illegals being deported except the people that exploit them.

My young adult DD was adopted internationally. She has a photo of her certificate of citizenship on her phone and at one point I thought of bringing up the passport card with her but wondered if I was too paranoid. She has had a passport since she was young.

This is nonsense made up fantasy and isn't a thing. Nobody is doing this for the express purposes you state.

We all have passport cards in our family. It’s smart to have in the absence of a national ID card. If ICE or and rando stops us I like having proof.

That's basically what DL's are, even if issued by the states, because they all have to be REAL ID licenses now that prove US citizenship.

So that's all you need on the ridiculous chance you are even stopped.

They can & will detain you no matter what ID you have if they want.

This.

Legal to do with anyone as long as the officer has "cause", then you must ID yourself and they may run a check on you. Has nothing to do with citizenship status, it applies to everyone.

You live under a rock. Or perhaps you are white and only have white people in your entourage. So of course you wouldn’t know anyone doing this.
