My Bethesda friend took Amtrak to MoCo (decades ago). It's not convenient but it worked back then.

It's an easy 4 hour-ish drive from MoCo. Parental one-day round-trip is common.

My kid just graduated, but she would take the train back and forth. It’s 7-8 hours or so and the start/end times can be rough, but she enjoyed it.

Hopefully the pending moves to accepted tonight. I’d heard that they like to release at the end of the week in the evening.
