If you have duds for kids, is it a reversion back to family history or an outlier?

With a parent who uses a word like that to describe their own child, no wonder!

Judging from your question, it’s a reflection on growing up with a critical judge parent.

In my family it's because of undiagnosed issues that weren't dealt with on childhood. Like undiagnosed learning disabilities, undiagnosed ADHD, undiagnosed anxiety disorder etc...

Call me crazy, but isn’t the dud the person who can’t find the interesting, amazing things about the human being in front of them?

Anonymous wrote:This is an interesting question. Many of the men on both sides of my family (dad's and mom's generation and now mine) have struggled and there are more than a few failure to launch examples. Meanwhile the women all -- ALL -- have thrived. It is enough of a thing that I noticed it as a child and asked my mom about it and she said something about parents "raising the daughters but loving the sons" being the issue. At the time it didn't make sense to me but later I understood it to mean that the sons were spoiled and coddled in ways that crippled them and made them less prepared for life while at the same time THE PARENTS were tough and exacting with the daughters which taught them to be more independent and work harder, strive.

left that out

Wow this is my mom’s family, but I never put it together until now. Lots were asked of the girls, but not the boys. Boys had all sorts of problems are still very reliant on their sisters to function in the world, but girls made their way. Not that they didn’t have issues, but found careers and most are happily married for years with nice kids and grandkids.

Yes I think this is very true.

You or your spouse are probably also a Dud.

It’s highly inheritable. Plus a dud parent can’t undud a dud kid, it’s their normal!

Good parents never find themselves in this situation. Dud parents do.
