What is your DMV specific “sin” that would get you a scarlet letter?

Calling the DC area "DMV."

PP is a Northerner, so caught up in the myths of the Confederacy’s past that they can’t see Southern states in a modern context. As a NOVA resident, please, stay the hell out of our state!

I don’t give a sht about seeing pandas

I hate the zoo and Arlington cemetery. No hotter places on the planet. (This is not a commentary on the cemetery itself, which is of course meaningful and moving. It's just that whenever we end up going, it's a million degrees out and uphill in all directions.)

A local variety of smoked pork and beef sausage usually grilled and eaten on a hot dog bun.

Like a cross between a hot dog and a kielbasa? Gross

No, not like that. Are you midwestern ?

No, I’m from here. Are you midwestern?

No, I’m from here. Why would you think anything is like a kielbasa?

Because “smoked sausage”.

Oh sweetie.

Literally just explain it to me, lol. What is a half smoke? What does it taste like?

It would be a sin to sneer at calling it the DMV.

You must be a transplant.

Same. I don’t like TJs and don’t understand all the love for it.

Nope - local for 45+ years, since toddlerhood. DMV is the Department of Motor Vehicles. And It's National Airport.

In MD, we have the MVA —Motor Vehicle Administration.

I’m with you on the airport, though.

I have never been to Arlington Cemetery.

Guess I'm a tourist in this town

You cannot be from here. That’s for sure.

PP you replied to. Well of course I'm not from here. I'm not American. But I have lived here for 20 years! I like doing tourist things, like going to see the cherry blossoms and wandering around the Smithsonian museums. I am not particularly interested in local "lore". I think that's what OP was referring to - things that are famous, but just for locals.

I love Trader Joe’s but I do not like Aldi.

My kids don’t do travel teams, just rec.

I live 8 miles outside the city and when I travel to other parts of the world and someone asks where I’m from, I say “DC”. Because in every other city in the country, that’s the way it is and I won’t cater to DC weirdness about it .

4th generation from DC and I don’t call it the DMV and get annoyed at those who do.
