So sick of crappy summer weather

I mind the mosquitoes most of all. I can't wait for genetic mosquito control everywhere, not just in California and Florida hotspots, so that we don't get cancer from spraying.

The heat, the humidity, are all hard to bear. But the worst are the mosquitoes.

+1 This summer hasn’t been bad by DC standards. Summer here just sucks.

This is the 2nd most humid summer on record. It is bad by DC standards.

Thank you for checking the data. People just love to tell you not to overreact; "it's typical". I do remember the uncharacteristically cool spring we had! That was real too. Usually we jump from winter right into the heat. We had a lovely, long and cooooool spring. I'm grateful for that.

This! That spring!!! So happy

It makes me so sedentary.

I wonder why I even live here. 😫

It's always this bad in August. But this summer it stayed in June and hasn't let up. Next week will be the coolest week for a while. The thunderstorms are definitely more intense this year too.

Mosquitos fill a vital role in our ecology.

July is always the hottest.

Even since that first Trump presidency the weather has been ruined. Did Trump steal the weather for his golf courses?

What?! No!

I grew up here. DC summers have always been hot.

I remember 2015-2016 well- my kids did a lot of outdoor soccer camps where the studs in their cleats melted on the turf because it was 101 (w/ feel like temps of 117 degrees).

It’s why we always go to Maine or San Diego for summer vacations. Mid Atlantic and south way too hot.

I have despised DC summers my entire adult life - as a kid/teen it didn’t bother me.

I get reverse seasonal depression. I definitely am living half the year somewhere cooler when I retire in 5 years.

+1 in my 50s. Lived here my entire life

People with $ clear out in the summer

I’ve lived here for 14 years and I free. I don’t know why people have this amnesia about summer here. It’s ALWAYS hot and sticky with an afternoon storm . The one summer I actively recall being vastly different was 2013 because it rained CONSTANTLY. I had a 3 year old and we could never go to the pool. Besides that and the summer with the derecho, none of these summers are outside the norm.

25 years here. Disagree. We’d have this kind of weather days. But it was days. Never for this long. Most of the summer was pretty bearable.

I think this is the difference. Years prior, it would be this bad humidity and heat wise but it would be for a few days and then always "break". It just does not change now and unfortunately more the standard than the exception.

The high humidity around here is definitely getting much worse.

It’s great for swimming in our pool. We have not needed to turn on the heater this summer. It’s so enjoyable to go in and out of the water with no chill.

Interesting. Is this an established thing? If it is, it explains so much for me as I really do think I have something similar. I feel depleted and kind of low, even depressed, every summer.

Agree. August is almost always better than July.

It’s always hot in dc in July. But I’ve lived here my whole life and don’t ever remember this much rain and flooding. It storms most nights for sure but usually a 20-minute intense storm that blows through. Not day after day of hours long rain.

All the biting insects.
I walk the dog in the wood, I wear OFF. I still get bitten in the 1 inch spot between the bottom of my shorts and wear I sprayed.

+1 the rain/storms are out of control. And the humidity. Apart from the heat wave in June, temps so far have been typical. It’s normal to have highs around 90 this time of year and that’s what we’ve had recently.

I remember a very rainy summer a few years ago, I think 2018? We would have days of relatively cool rain and raining all day. The mosquitoes were out of control that summer. And then it stayed weirdly warm and humid until we had an abrupt weather pattern change in mid-October.
