My kid shared a text chain when their phone blew up specifically regarding AP Calc AB majority of kids on the text chain got 2’s. From “high performing” FCPS HS. Seems strange for sure.

What school system has 9th graders taking AP US Govt? This is weird to me.

MCPS. Some take in 10th if they do Honors US in 9th (and no APUSH in HS) but many do AP Gov in 9th then APUSH in 10th. AP World is 11th.

Wow! Very different from most preferred/common track in fcps:
Soph: AP World
Jun: APUS
Sen: AP Gov
Soph

That’s like how it was when I was a kid (but no AP for world). But AP Gov is really just a semester class traditionally so I think it makes sense to start with it since it’s less content. Coming off 8th grade US history, it’s a logical path. APUSH is more difficult but builds nicely as a next course after Gov.

I don’t of any kid in my DD’s fcps school that took any APs freshman year.

My kid nailed the Gov exam but got a 2 in Spanish. Wondering how much of this affects the fact that our school makes kids take AP Spanish as sophomores if they want to get the IB exam. And has a terrible Spanish teacher all kids suffer through as freshmen...anyone else's kid take the Spanish exam as a rising junior?

That is odd. You can check school profile to see previous school distribution. Our MCPS school - strong but not top - had mainly fours and fives on that in past years. Crossing fingers for an administrative error.

Lots of FCPS kids can take AP Comp Sci P freshman year.

Is that after year 4 of Spanish or what year?

At our school the typical sequence is
Spanish 1 - 7th grade (and yes, it goes on the transcript!)
Spanish 2 - 8th grade
Spanish 3 - 9th grade
Spanish 4 OR AP Spanish - 10th grade (savvy kids take AP Spanish to avoid the teacher who teaches Spanish 3 and Spanish 4)
IB Spanish - 11th/12th grade

You shared her scores on the internet before she even saw them? Rude.

Well, you don’t have any way of identifying her and let’s just say she’s not a big consumer of DCUM so I don’t think anyone is getting hurt but you. When she looked them up after her 6am practice, she was pumped, though. No need to despair on her behalf.

We just feel bad that her parent is so pathetic. I’m sure it shows up in lots of ways.

Ha ha! That’s a pretty sick burn, Patrice. As I alluded to before, me and mine are feeling pretty sound in our camp. But you enjoy the rest of your Monday!

Our non-IB school starts same was but goes 4-5-AP, which is really drawn out. But most kids get 4s and 5s if they make it through all six years. So I wouldn’t worry too much and don’t compare scores with kids who took Spanish for 6-7 years (some take 1 over grades 6 and 7 for slower start/better foundation). I assume he can retake in two years for college credit if desired.

Got them for AP Euro, Comp Gov, Stats, and Lit. DC will receive college credit at a public university for 2 out of the above. DC also received college credit for 8 other APs taken during hs - so now has lots of flexibility for choosing classes, doing a semester abroad, etc.]. DC is now graduated and happy to be done and going off to college.

it is very odd. Do individual schools request that error be investigated?

Here are the score distributions for this year’s exams.https://apstudents.collegeboard.org/about-ap-scores/score-distributions

63% score 3 or higher on AB Calc. This may be a teacher issue and not an administrative error.

Just woke up. All 5s! Rising senior. AP Lang, APUSH, AP Bio, AP Calc. Last year 5 AP Euro.

Our private doesn’t like language taken in middle school. Kids generally don’t start above level 1. They will test into Honors 1 if they do well on language placement.

SP Honors 1, 2, and 3 and then the option of AP Spanish or Honors 4. The honors courses are very rigorous from the start—all in Spanish, many Spanish books assigned, etc

One 5 (BIO) and two 4s (APUSH & LANG). Pleased.
