That is odd. You can check school profile to see previous school distribution. Our MCPS school - strong but not top - had mainly fours and fives on that in past years. Crossing fingers for an administrative error.

Is this in the college board app, the "school profile"?

No. It’s a document your school provides to colleges with your application. It’s often on the school website. Not all high schools provide the AP distribution.

What kind of nonsense is this? A 4 is a very good score on any AP, not to mention Calc BC taken by a sophomore(!) My kids are taking Calc BC senior year. PP - don't listen to this nonsense and definitely don't tell your kid to retake calc after they are taking multivariable or linear algebra...

The College Board’s “Landscape” product also gives colleges some data (percent of seniors at your school who take at least one AP exam, average number of AP exams taken, average AP score).

It must be remembered that while 5 on any AP course is nice , you only need to get about 75% right to achieve that.

Sounds like they had a bad (new?) teacher. Which is too bad. But I dont think the test was abnormally hard this year.

To the first PP --- who has the kid with lots of people getting 2's on AP Calc AB --- what were their grades in the class? My kid took Calc AB -- from a "high performing" HS in FCPS. Grade was "A" for the class. AP score = 4 (which is fine with us b/c it gets DS credit for Calc I at his univ.)

Maybe these kids were already struggling in the class.

Ditto for my kid at an MCPS W, who had an A in the class and a 4 on the exam. Teacher really prepared them.

I agree that a bad teacher can really ruin the AP test score, as well as student's mastery of the subject. During the pandemic virtual year, my son had straight As in AP Calc, and ended up with a 2 on the exam. We were all surprised, but in hindsight, my son kept telling us that he didn't think his teacher was that good. We should have gotten him a tutor or something, but we just didn't catch on.

NP. I guarantee PP was someone who pushed their kid ahead in math. PP's kid probably took Geometry summer of 7th grade so they could take Algebra II in 8th. Many parents do this at our MS thinking that it gives them an edge. If you are taking Calc BC as a sophomore you should be really good at math.

You can check out scores by subject and school for the past three years for MCPS here:

https://ww2.montgomeryschoolsmd.org/data/LAR-charts/AP-Exam-by-Subject.htm

I believe they'll update the data in the fall for 2025 scores

The college board shows grade distribution

AP Calc AB - 20% got a 5
AP Chemistry - 17% got a 5

and so on
