It's embarrassing and sad. The only people who have kids who learn anything are those who help their kids learn at home or by paying for outside classes and tutors. Or by buying in a top pyramid--I think they learn a bit more there but probably not much more.

The kids will be in the classroom with no electronics, no movies, nothing except the books they bring to school with them.

It was a shock to me when my oldest was a 6th grader that they don't go to school after the promotion ceremony. wish I had a heads up about that way prior!

This is a school thing. Never had this issue with our kids when they were in 6th grade. Our promotion ceremony was the day before last day of school.

"Top" pyramids only difference is that more parents supplement academics outside school hours - either directly or at a tutoring center.

They can't watch jurassic park in fcps, not even at the high school level. District policy caps out at PG for high school movies.

False. Middle school can show PG-13 with parental notification.

If my learning from parents "directly" you mean parents who read to their kids and have dinner with their kids and support their kids, I agree.

If you mean direct instruction and a "tutoring center" I strongly disagree.

The schools do teach and your kids will learn.

But, being upset because the kids are helping the teacher finish up the last week of school is ridiculous. The teacher is not going to let the kids do nothing all day and the teacher has lots of things to finish up. A movie now and then never hurt anyone.

It’s been 3 movies a day all last week.

You people will never be happy. One person complains they spend way too much time on laptops and you are upset they won’t have them this week. Lol. You all are too cheap for private school so guess what? You get what you get and you don’t get upset.

Sad parents find no value in a couple of easy going days at school where kids could have fun with their friends. They worked hard all year they deserve a few blow off days.

What grade? Secondary? Not happening in ES. Kids cannot even sit barely sit for 30 mins.

If your kid in Grades 3-6 can't sit for 30 minutes to watch a movie, there's a problem.

Not everywhere. My kid still has the laptop. Collection is happening sometime on Monday or Tuesday, we were told.

6th grade teacher here. My kids made it 40 mins into a movie then they got bored. They can probably sit and watch a movie at home but not with their classmates.

it the same as snow days

That has nothing to do with it. It would be the same whenever the last couple weeks of school would be. Get over it.
