last day of school on 06/06/2025

Anyone sending their kids to school after today? Our son is an eighth grader in FCPS, and my husband does not want our son to go to school next week because my husband thinks it is a waste of time.

Thoughts?

last week of 8th grade is fun of the kids, feel bad for the teachers but he will have fun if he goes.

what else will he be doing at home? sleeping? going on tiktok all night?

7th grader mom here. A ton of his friends aren't going after today - one is off to another country, one is off to another state for a camp. One of his teachers told him they didn't have to come anymore after the final on Wednesday. Apparently they are all saying it's Movie Day from here on out.

I think these half weeks just beg for people to bail early. My husband was even saying flight prices are significantly higher next week.

I'm planning on sending him next week, but we'll see. Not really going to fight it.

My kids are in elementary and they have all their end of the year parties next week, so they still want to go. What’s up with the middle/HS schedules though? I saw older kids walking or getting off the bus at seemingly all hours this past week. I left my house at 10:45 am for a doctor appointment and there was the bus letting a bunch of kids off.

High school kids have finals the last 5 days - 2 finals per day from 8:15-10:30 (roughly depending on the school). So, yes, my high schooler is going next week. Not every period has a final, but he has History and Bio next week.

OP here. He will be in Argentina for ten to train 1:1 with a personal trainer and a retired professional soccer player. He will have an additional week of training if he does not have to go to school next week. He also expresses his desire not to go to school next week.

But these are the easy, fun days! Movies, field day, yearbook signing. Come on, they earned a little of Easy Street after working hard all year! Jurassic Park and Sound of Music and 12 Angry Men! Let’s go!

Back in 2022, my DD wanted to stay home the last few days of 8th grade. I ended up making her go and she had tons of fun those days. She was happy she went and they were allowed do dancing videos and she thanks me because it was better than doing nothing at home.

This is fcps’ fault. From movies to playing games to end of the year parties the last two weeks have almost no learning. It’s embarrassing.

Be sure to thank the school board for extending the school year with unnecessary religious holidays!

Such a shame to waste so much time. Kids could be learning all sorts of things - I think it shows lazy leadership.

They can't watch jurassic park in fcps, not even at the high school level. District policy caps out at PG for high school movies.

By all means, if you have the travel and lodging squared away and trainers waiting on standby for you to make this last minute call, go ahead and blow off the last few days of school.
