I wonder if we are in the same school. I’ve actually emailed the principal about this because, I’m sorry, but this is not ok. They have school. You need a plan. Yes, the SB sucks. Yes, we want to be on summer vacation too. But don’t take it out on the kids. You’re seriously going to make them sit there on their very last day of elementary school and read for 4 hours? What a bad look.

OP here. He will be in Argentina for ten to train 1:1 with a personal trainer and a retired professional soccer player. He will have an additional week of training if he does not have to go to school next week. He also expresses his desire not to go to school next week.

Send him to that.

My 7th grader had a teacher tell them not to come! Although I'm making them go.

Kilmer said we could take them home after if we wanted and mine said she wants to go Monday- Wed since friends will be split at different high schools next year. So that’s why she’s going. It’s a bittersweet time and she feels it’s the last time to see some of these kids. Many are going to Marshall, Madison or private schools.

This is frustrating. Our FCPS MS goes to a bunch of different HS and they aren;t doing any kind of ceremony

Check and see if they are doing an award ceremony. When our oldest was in 8th, there was an award ceremony and we didn’t go but it turns out this was the promotion ceremony and kids walked across the stage. We didn’t know they were the same thing and that most parents went.

10/10

What sets it apart is that they’re pondering this choice two days in advance. Should I send Larlo to school on Monday, or should I send him to Argentina?

Choices choices!

My kid (seventh grade) had a quiz yesterday and another on Monday. They are still learning at that school!

My 6th graders promotion ceremony and party is Tuesday evening. I know they have a concert Monday. They have a grade level activity each day next week. I know most of the days will include extra recess, cleaning, organizing but I am fine with that. They should help the teachers clean!

My HS junior had her last final today and is not going in at all next week. She will likely sleep all day. She took 5 AP classes and 1 DE class this year. She is DONE! I'm fine with her getting her rest. She starts her summer job on the 15th.

I thought all of the fcps muddle schools do some kind of 8th grade celebration. All the schools in our area do something.

Nope - only thing at LMS is an awards ceremony, and if you kid gets inducted into NJHS. No promotion.

Our school is having an awards ceremony but it doesn't say parents should attend. All the email says is that parents whose kids were getting an award were notified. Is that the graduation ceremony? Are we supposed to go if our kid isn't getting an award? Why is it so confusing?

They don't want you to go but they don't want to say that out loud. If they don't invite the parents of the awardees they will get a ton of complaints.

I found the invite to my kid’s MS awards ceremony in spam and almost missed it. Check there.

Now I know why you think school is a waste of time. You only care about sports, like so many parents in this county.
