These kind of threads are exhausting and are a complete waste of time. OP starts a thread claiming to ask for opinions to answer their question and then proceeds to argue with other posters when they reply.

WHY?! It’s completely disingenuous. The OP just wants to argue their point.

Exactly and for what purpose! If your school of choice is so great, why such insecurity to start this thread? Content people don’t feel the need.

Good school. Nice campus. Nice town. Good weather. Good medical school. Reasonable cost of living. Good access to greenery and mountains. Many nice towns within drivable distance. One of the better state schools like UC Berkeley, UT Austin, UVA.

DP, no affiliation, but the burden is on you to make your claim, not the other posters. They don’t work for you lol.

Several points:

- People who start these thread just to bash schools are losers who probably couldn't get into said schools
- That being said, if you don't like these threads, just ignore them
- If you think that despite hating the thread you need to post on it to prove someone wrong, you don't
- If you think you need to post on the thread to provide facts so others won't be misinformed, most of those others are helpless lemmings who also think that USN&WR rankings are the be all and end all and that tiny nuance differences between schools actually matter.
- I am being a bit hypocritical even posting this and don't know why I waste my time here.

I would like to add to the prior post that I went to Duke and hate UNC with all my being yet it is an excellent school in a cool town in a great region with great sports (though not as good as Duke), really good social life for all, much smaller than most flagship state schools which is very appealing, and has a loyal alumni network both locally and nationally.

Go to hell, Carolina, go to hell!

Spot on, wish we could pin this at top. Wasted breath in this cesspool.

Why is it a cesspool? Nobody could prove OP was wrong.

DCUM is a cesspool. You probably are OP, move along, no one is interested in playing unless a UVA person stops by with their insecurities. Not needed, both fine schools, better at in-state prices.

They hired a nice young man as their football coach!

The tour wasn't fabulous, freshman orientation was mediocre, and it was bigger than they wanted. Besides it being well ranked, it didn't have any wow factor for them so they both went to a smaller OOS school. For instate tuition though, it can't be beat, so it's a very attractive option in state.

OP here. That’s the thing, everyone knows it’s highly selective OOS but nobody can articulate what actually makes it unique. There are other highly selective OOS flagships in the south. It seems like in-state folks are measured in their approach but OOS kids just want to play the “prestige” game.

It’s because of networking

Honestly OOS is fiscally dumb

Med school students even dumber as getting into med school from their is super hard.
