They responded and confirmed OP’s suspicion that there isn’t anything truly exceptional or unique about Chapel Hill. It’s a solid flagship, nothing more and nothing less. |

How is this different from UVA or UGA? |
Isn’t UVA in a non-thriving area where people wouldn’t likely live after versus research triangle or Atlanta? Haven’t been so honestly don’t know. |
| Athens is further than I thought from Atlanta, so I guess that helps UNC. |
Slightly further than CH to Raleigh but Atlanta is much bigger. |
Atlanta is slowly becoming a new tech hub. That is their goal. They are attracting a lot of Tech companies. https://georgia.org/blog/georgia-earns-back-back-no-1-tech-hub-rankings |
Charlottesville is a great college town with easy proximity to DC and Richmond. Plus it’s not like kids stay in their college apartment after they graduate. If that were the case NC State would be the clear winner. |
I’m not defending it, don’t really care, but I do think it’s different. Chapel Hill is part of the research triangle so in the hiring machine it is. Carolina is king there, so it’s a fun place to be post college to have good job and be able to go back for games. Rivalries with coworkers at N.C. State and Duke being so close. The proximity is nice. I’ve heard Charlottesville is a nice town, but it’s a greater distance to Richmond and DC, so a little different in terms of really living where you attended school and being closely tied (whether someone views that a negative or positive may vary). |
UVA and UGA aren’t nearly as restrictive for OOS. If UNC admitted 30% of both in state and OOS…then it would be talked about like UMD (which has same admit rates at like 34%). |
Really? No Opie Taylor. No close to bigger city. No absence of engineering students. No lots of national championships in a variety of sports. |
Do your own research I guess. I am not sure why you start a thread just to bash UNC. What is the point? I am not understanding why we need another thread for a poster with an insatiable need to be proven right or wrong about their hard feelings about any schools. If you don't like Chapel Hill, ok. But I don't need to convince you otherwise as if I am at trial and need to prove my case. I don't have any beef with UVA or Georgia or Charlottesville or Athens. Georgia and UVA are perfectly fine schools. I would be happy if my kids attended there. |
Right, it’s so weird. No one cares enough about UGA to do this. Why is UNC always being mentioned. Not at any, just opened as I knew it would be drama. |

| Fair or not, I always assume it’s UVA people that start these incessant threads. I positive for UNC is that I genuinely don’t think if there was an equivalent forum they would have the vitriol. I’m certain there are wonderful UVA people, but the ones that post on here are truly insufferable and doing the school no favors. It’s such a turn-off. |
