We were always told that Speedo (and now Tyr I suppose) tech suits were required at meets on the level of NCI and above unless you had permission from a fitter who agreed Speedo sizing didn’t work for you. My kid is not at that level and swam in an Arena tech suit this year. Nobody had any problem with that. As far as regular racing suits, most 12u kids wore the provided team suit while the 13 and overs wore pretty much whatever they wanted (my kid hated her Aquablade and raced in a Jolyn at most meets. Machine is also sponsored by Tyr. DCs friend is a national team level swimmer with them and I’ve never seen her race in anything but Arena or Speedo, so clearly Machine has exceptions as well. |
Interesting. My kid is NCAP and wore his Arena suit at NCI, age group champs and NCSAs with no issues. Once you get to a Sectional meet they care. But I also have the philosophy that NCAP may be a sponsored Club but my kid isn’t and unless NCAP wants to provide their tech suits I am buying whatever brand my kid prefers and fits our budget |
Durafast elite is not an Aquablade equivalent. It’s the kind of suit my daughter wore when she was 7. |
The Tyr Thresher is the Arena Powerskin equivalent. Don’t know about fabric and compression, but it’s sooooo boring with its one design. |
I’m OP. It was not in our registration email: “Hope you and your families are having a great week. I’m reaching out with a reminder that registration for the 2025-2026 season will open Monday May 19th.. Registration will only be available to families registered for the current season for two weeks. New families can begin registering on June 2nd – so please register before this time so we know who many spots are available. You will recieve your group placement directly from your group coach over the next few days! Exciting Announcement about our NEW TEAM SPONSOR! Effective immediately, NCAP is now a TYR sponsored team! We are thrilled to be partnering with such an innovative and high-quality swim brand. Starting this Fall, NCAP will act as its own team dealer selling TYR swimsuits, equipment and apparel (parkas, backpacks, etc.) We will have some flexibility for the upcoming season on our athletes still wearing Speedo suits, but recommend families stop purchasing this brand. With our TYR contract, there will be a team discount available to NCAP families of at least 25% off online purchase available on TYR’s website throughout the year. We are working on getting this code activated this summer and will confirm as soon as it’s available. Team Outfitting Package: Items included in our outfitting package will remain similar to this past season. Size Deadline (7/31): The system will ask for their shirt size during the TU registration process, you will be able to update this size through July 31st and we will send out a reminder this summer. Answers to commonly asked registration questions: Practice Schedules: Practice schedules will remain the same as this season and can be seen on our website under the practice schedule tab. This tab will also show you the summer practice schedule which is very similar to previous summers. How to Register New Siblings: If your athlete has a sibling interested in joining us next season, please reach out to Head Admin, REDACTED to schedule an evaluation. College Registration: This will be available for our graduating seniors by October 2025. Please reach out to your athlete’s coach before they return home for break next year and they will send you the directions to register. We are looking forward to having your athletes join us for the 2025-2026 season! Sincerely, Your Coaching Staff |
It was in the email everyone got from Tom Ugast announcing the change. It was highlighted and said Important for 12 & Unders. |
Yeah, this sounds to me more.like "this is where our cut of the revenue is coming from in the future, so get ready to spend here," rather than "we're pulling you out of your event if you're in the wrong brand." I wouldn't give it a second thought myself unless and until membership was actually at stake over this choice. 12U approved tech suit? Necessary for USA Swimming rules. The rest of this? Nope. |
Our site did not get an email directly from Ugast about this Tyr partnership. We saw it announced on social media and got an email like that posted above for registration. |
Previously the suit requirements for Speedo could be found in the NCAP handbook. I assume it will now change to TYR requirements.
Speedo was required for any championship level meet including PVS Champs. Was it enforced? I’m not sure, but the handbook says it’s a requirement. If you want to verify this you can google NCAP handbook and find it online. |
We swim at one of the franchises, and it definitely was not enforced for our 10Us at NCI or PV Champs. |
They will absolutely care if your DS or DD is in a record-setting relay and shows up in the Insta photo wearing Speedo or Arena |
So they edit out the offending logo if they want and life goes on. |
Again. NCAP has a sponsorship with TYR but our children do not. Put them in whatever brand they like the best. |
Our email was explicit about not buying anymore Speedo. It didn’t mention Arena, A3, etc. I’m guessing that’s the real part Tyr cares about, especially since NCAP and Speedo have been together a long time and it’s such a big club. |
Still, nobody has stated what the Aquablade equivalent is for Tyr. It is **not** Durafast. That material is the same as the suits my daughter wears at practice. In fact, she wore Tyr suits when she was 5-7.
Also, the Tyr Thresher with one pattern seems to be the only kneeskin. So boring. (Channeling my inner Villanelle/Ki11ing Eve) |
