Sitcoms of the last ten years?

Abbot Elementary could fit the bill. Sheryl Lee Ralph alone makes that show worth watching.

Brooklyn 99, Andre Braugher was fantastic on it.

Grace and Frankie - goes a bit off the rails but the first season is worth watching.

Schitt's Creek - first season doesn't quite come together but the show takes off in the second season (particularly after Patrick shows up).

The US version of ghosts is awful.

The UK version is spectacular.

However, the story jumps back and forth in time and they have clever, long-running jokes that last for seasons. Very funny.

I really like the US and UK versions - they have very different tones. UK is a lot darker, US is a lot lighter, they are both very good.

Another vote for Brooklyn 99, Abbott, and Never Have I Ever. Blackish is another one we enjoyed.

Maybe it's the character you don't like? I can see how some would find him annoying, but I think the show is pretty good and I hope it gets a second season to build a fan base.

I like the US version better, though I like the human couple better in the UK version.

I convinced my teen to watch it just a couple weeks ago

The US version is more feel good than the UK version. Both are fine shows worth watching, they're just different. The OP said they were looking for something more escapist and I'd say the US one is more fitting for that. They both get a wee bit repetitive, more the US one.

I would agree with this assessment. After starting with the US version, I found a couple of the ghosts in the UK version a bit dull.

I'm not sure what constitutes a sitcom but I've had many literal LOL moments with:

Kim's convenience
Girls 5Eva
