Ghosts definitely. The US version is lighter hearted than the UK one. Abbot Elementary could fit the bill. Sheryl Lee Ralph alone makes that show worth watching. Brooklyn 99, Andre Braugher was fantastic on it. Grace and Frankie - goes a bit off the rails but the first season is worth watching. Schitt's Creek - first season doesn't quite come together but the show takes off in the second season (particularly after Patrick shows up).
The US version of ghosts is awful. The UK version is spectacular.
I really like the US and UK versions - they have very different tones. UK is a lot darker, US is a lot lighter, they are both very good.
I like the US version better, though I like the human couple better in the UK version. I convinced my teen to watch it just a couple weeks ago
The US version is more feel good than the UK version. Both are fine shows worth watching, they're just different. The OP said they were looking for something more escapist and I'd say the US one is more fitting for that. They both get a wee bit repetitive, more the US one.
I would agree with this assessment. After starting with the US version, I found a couple of the ghosts in the UK version a bit dull.
