What happened to Moderate Dems VA/MD?

Someone who is actually reasonable about public safety and doesn’t want to reduce penalties on crime. Also, don’t tell me to vote for Babur Lateef (in the primary) he is super sleazy and will bring nothing good to our state. So out of the other remaining candidates which one is the most moderate?

You are not a dem. You are a maga idiot.
What do you not understand?

There is no Republican party anywhere in the US.

They are traitors full on traitors and we can not afford one criminal, lying traitor to be elected in the State of MD.

Andy Harris is a Republican in MD he's a dam liar and criminal and traitor. He has done nothing in office for the people that voted for him.

Republicans do not "respect voter control" you fool.

Shut up. I am tired of these lying posts.

MAGA is just so extreme any normal candidate will seem “leftists” by comparison. One wants to destroy the economy by doing away with free markets, force your children to work in factories for $3 an hour and do away with the constitution. The other wants to balance the budget, protect voting rights and invested infrastructure.

Well, that was easy

What you call "unhinged" is what the party should be standing for instead of chasing the right to catch voters like you.

This.

I grew up in a Republican family. The modern Democratic party is closer to the old school Repubs, than the MAGA or Tea Party types. They aren't extreme to me, and seem really moderate.

Right wing outlets will claim absurd stuff like "they want 3rd trimester abortions for all!" or "they want gender changes for 5 year olds!" but that's total BS. No Democrat is remotely arguing those kinds of things.

FYI I voted for Hashemi today.

Exactly. The educated, moderate Rs I know from the 90s are all Ds now.

I think they may vote D because this area is controlled by Ds so they want a say in who gets elected, but IMO, moderate Rs are probably Independents.

-former R, moderate, who is now Independent but registered as a D so I can have a say in the primaries.

Nope

They are Dem because MAGA is insane and being an independent is a spineless

Certainly, there is no preponderance of extreme organized, far ideology on the left as there is in MAGA and the Republican party as a whole.

To moderates, progressives are "extreme left". It doesn't matter if the right is more extreme. Moderates don't want either extremes.

Stop using words you hear on TV and please give me an example of what is extreme left.

Seriously, are dems trying to lose again. Calling people "MAGA Bigots" because the don't meet an ideological purity test is a recipe for disaster. I don't like Andy Harris. He is a completely unprincipled politician that hates federal employees and wants to destroy the constitution. Literally, the whole point of this thread is asking a question about which democratic Virginia lieutenant governor primary candidate is the most moderate. John Reid and Winsome Sears are nutjobs. I don't want to vote for them.

Congress is talking about banning ranked choice voting

Ranked choice voting can be gamed. I know it's the flavor of the day, but it's a bad idea.

Cite?

Say you have three candidates - two decide to cooperate. Candidate A tells voters to vote for candidate B as their second choice. Candidate B tells voters to vote for Candidate A for second choice. What happens to candidate C? Insert demographics for the three candidates and figure that out.

Why not just have the candidate who wins the greatest number of votes, even if its a plurality?

Apparently, the bulk of voters would prefer A or B but not C. It seems to be working as designed.

Yep, it is working as designed - a gamed system.

I never said anything about bathrooms. That is someone else.

People forget that Hogan was moderate and anti-MAGA and Republican. He is not dead.

He never could have been elected Governor of MD - a strongly Democrat state - had he not been more moderate (and preferable to many registered Democrat voters) than the Democrat he ran against.

I also would be fine with Susan Collins if I lived in Maine. She is highly bi-partisan in her voting record and often she is the key vote in favor of a Democrat's initiative. And again, she very clearly is not MAGA.

Susan Collins is a wimp.

I hear Hogan is going to run for governor again.

I used to think Susan collins was moderate, but I don't think that's actually true anymore. She has still voted to confirm most of these nutjobs to run agencies. She just pretends to b concerned about things, but never actually votes against anything meaningful when her vote would make a difference.

This is my experience, too. And the few times I’ve tried to speak more moderately (not MAGA), I’ve been called names and told I’m ignorant. And when I’ve calmly explained I voted for Harris but have concerns, I’ve been told I am lying and I must be a Trumper.

I find some of my progressive friends openly hostile. I can’t have reasoned conversations with them.

Oh no. Poor bigots don’t like to be called out for their bigotry.

And this is how the democrats lose elections. Moderates have been pushed out of the party.
