If a human enters the US illegally, that’s a criminal action. Would you prefer we can them “criminals”. That would be accurate, no?

How about saying "undocumented" instead? When you get down to it the distinction is whether or not they have a birth certificate.

Most people from Oregon and New Hampshire use the term Sans-doc when referring to undocumented immigrants. I think it's appropriate.

My uncle grew up in NYC, speaking Italian (dialect); the child of immigrants from Italy. The bigoted slur he endured was similar: “WOP,” which was a derisive acronym slung at Italian immigrants, and which stood for “with out papers.”

Not going to use “Sans-doc.” Ever.

Unfortunately, hatred of the other is nothing new in this country--it has always been present. My father's parents were Eastern European immigrants who immigrated to Cleveland. Although my father was US-born with an American accent, had a pale pink complexion, and didn't look particularly "ethnic," he was once called a WOP. I will never use the term "illegal alien." I will always use "undocumented migrant."

PS. All these years I did not know that WOP stood for "without papers." Learn something new here every day.

We use terms like MAGA on DCUM to dehumanize.

To be fair, it is proudly used by people on the right starting from the president himself who often wears the slogan on his hats. Social media messages by its adherents often end with MAGA!

I personally use it as shorthand for "Republican" or the "GOP" because, currently, it is the MAGA party and people who vote for the MAGA party are MAGA. If the MAGA party ever reverts to being actual Republicans, I will resume calling it the GOP and calling its followers Republicans.

What are people who do not have permission to be in a country called in other counties? France? Japan? Australia? Argentina? UK? Poland? Kenya? Egypt? Saudi Arabia? South Korea?
Target practice.

Seriously, what label do other countries use?

According to this document from the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, they have officially been called versions of "irregular migrants" or "migrants without papers" in various European languages for decades. Of course, what they are called colloquially by non-PC locals is a whole different matter.

Yup, just like your European ancestors who came here and stole the land from native Americans. THAT was most definitely criminal behavior.

That's called conquest

In Saudi Arabia they are called infiltrators as well as illegal aliens.

Infiltrator is a proper term because it indicates these law breakers are entering the country as a hostile, invading force.

Seriously, what label do other countries use?

Wow. Maybe OP would prefer the term infiltrator for someone who breaches our borders? It might be the most accurate term without using the word illegal.

+ 1,000%!

Dehumanizing your enemy is vitally important to set up the conditions that will allow them to slaughtered on an industrial scale when you attain enough political power to start the process.

It all starts with isolating language and labeling them, to allow for cutting them off from “normal” people. Use words and labels that eliminate their humanity, and make it easier to allow them to be thought of as non-human.

Things like:

Irredeemables
Deplorables
Fascists
MAGAs
Zionists

You are so right! Let me just add to your list the following dehumanizing words and labels:

Leftist
Marxist
Socialist
Communist
Woke
Elitist
Snowflake
Social justice warrior
Libt**d
Virtue signaler
The woke mob
Left-wing loonies

Or, the phrase often used by our president: "radical left lunatics."

But “basket of deplorables” is acceptable to you?

Is "libt**d" acceptable to you?

I'm starting to think the people on the two "sides" in American politics are as stupid and hopeless as the people on the two "sides" that keep killing each other in the Middle East. Just like in the Middle East, it's the normal, innocent, peaceful and more intelligent people caught in the crossfire who suffer the most.

Another idiotic comment that will help us lose the next election. I'd much rather be the citizen of a European country but it doesn't work that way. If I show up without papers and overstay my visit i'm getting deported. Countries have laws and borders. Go back to school.

It is one thing to label oneself with a term like MAGA (like the n-word), but quite another when someone applies it to someone else. In one context, it’s benign. In another, not so much.

Anonymous wrote:What is fascinating here is how much empathy there is for people committing the crime of crossing the border without permission versus people who tell their story as the child of a rape/incest. The latter stories crop up every once in a while and DCUM tears into them for existing, how they ruined their mother’s life, etc. Sad. In the first case, someone chose to do something illegal, in the second, someone had no choice.

You are making things up.

Trump is making sure the GOP loses the next POTUS election just like he did during his 1st term. We've done this before folks. It's called history repeating itself.

Stop using logic and common sense. You are supposed to only feel about the issue. Do not use your mind so that you can be triggered to protest against our great nation enforcing its laws.

"Great nation"
You seemed to have missed the bus

No one wants your pathetic feelings
There are clear historical reasons not to refer to other human beings in a inhumane way.

Trump regime knows what they are doing
Trump (praise and peace be upon him), is doing exactly what he said he would concerning the border, which is why he was elected. He is doing the will of the American people.

Trump is making America gooder and greater.

You are wrong

And he doesn't want your praise and peace.
He is spreading evil and will answer for it one way or another

Meanwhile, you can get a pass. You don't sound too bright.

You can be a human and be illegally present in a country. Hence the term illegal alien. What part of this is unclear to you?

It's not "getting lost". It's that a vast majority of Americans don't actually buy it.

Nearly every country has a border that they enforce.

-Never voted for Trump

A lie or you actually can't vote here

Another never trumper American citizen and agree with PP. you are an illegal in a country where you unlawfully crossed the border into in. Facts suck.

Okay. Then what should we call people on the right who espouse MAGA beliefs?

+1 Is there any civilized country that doesn't require a passport and documentation to enter? Is there any civilized country that just allows people to walk over the border and start a new life there?
