No human being is illegal

No, probably not. The US has never not had a sovereign border. Biden removed some band aids we had in place and things got a little out of control but Biden is gone and dead to American politics now. Hopefully Congress can get their act together to pass reform measures that aren't just temporary band aid laws. Don't hold your breath!

The border/immigration failures of our past are no longer a valid political talking point and with any luck, it will remain that way. We can all move on now.

Because it is wrong.

We are a sovereign nation, first and foremost.

If a human enters the US illegally, that’s a criminal action. Would you prefer we can them “criminals”. That would be accurate, no?

But that’s seriously dehumanizing, don’t you agree?

What's dehumanizing is giving illegal aliens greater status and precedence over your own citizens.

I agree with your sentiments, but I think it’s completely unlikely that Trump and Maga will ever move beyond the issue and will ever stop blaming Biden for it. Next to trans bashing, migrant bashing is the biggest issue they have for getting the base worked up and people out to the polls.

How about saying "undocumented" instead? When you get down to it the distinction is whether or not they have a birth certificate.

Most people from Oregon and New Hampshire use the term Sans-doc when referring to undocumented immigrants. I think it's appropriate.

My uncle grew up in NYC, speaking Italian (dialect); the child of immigrants from Italy. The bigoted slur he endured was similar: “WOP,” which was a derisive acronym slung at Italian immigrants, and which stood for “with out papers.”

Not going to use “Sans-doc.” Ever.

Unfortunately, hatred of the other is nothing new in this country--it has always been present. My father's parents were Eastern European immigrants who immigrated to Cleveland. Although my father was US-born with an American accent, had a pale pink complexion, and didn't look particularly "ethnic," he was once called a WOP. I will never use the term "illegal alien." I will always use "undocumented migrant."

PS. All these years I did not know that WOP stood for "without papers." Learn something new here every day.

We use terms like MAGA on DCUM to dehumanize.

To be fair, it is proudly used by people on the right starting from the president himself who often wears the slogan on his hats. Social media messages by its adherents often end with MAGA!

I personally use it as shorthand for "Republican" or the "GOP" because, currently, it is the MAGA party and people who vote for the MAGA party are MAGA. If the MAGA party ever reverts to being actual Republicans, I will resume calling it the GOP and calling its followers Republicans.

It is one thing to label oneself with a term like MAGA (like the n-word), but quite another when someone applies it to someone else. In one context, it’s benign. In another, not so much.

Okay. Then what should we call people on the right who espouse MAGA beliefs?

It the same as asking what should we call immigrants who cross our border without permission or overstay their visas.

Hitler playbook

+ 1,000%!

Dehumanizing your enemy is vitally important to set up the conditions that will allow them to slaughtered on an industrial scale when you attain enough political power to start the process.

It all starts with isolating language and labeling them, to allow for cutting them off from “normal” people. Use words and labels that eliminate their humanity, and make it easier to allow them to be thought of as non-human.

Things like:

Irredeemables
Deplorables
Fascists
MAGAs
Zionists

You are so right! Let me just add to your list the following dehumanizing words and labels:

Leftist
Marxist
Socialist
Communist
Woke
Elitist
Snowflake
Social justice warrior
Libt**d
Virtue signaler
The woke mob
Left-wing loonies

Or, the phrase often used by our president: "radical left lunatics."

But “basket of deplorables” is acceptable to you?

Yes it is. It fits y’all perfectly.

If it were up to MAGA , migrants and trans are gonna be an albatross on the democrats necks forever. But what are the democrats gonna do about it?

Call MAGA “illegal aliens”? Hmmm…that could work. Their leader does engage in and promote illegal activities. And their values certainly are un-American.

To some degree the blame on Biden was fair. He did remove some band aid border policies that were in place with EOs very early in his term without there being other measures in place to control border crossings to a level we could handle. Republicans mistakenly try to paint the issue as a failure of Democratic policy in general when the the truth is, the short term issue could only fairly be blamed on Biden. Clinton and Obama's stance on border security was much very different than Biden's and basically the same as Bush's. Clinton and Obama were successful two term presidents. Biden is gone and so are his border policy or lack thereof.

It's not Biden. It is the entire Democratic Party that supports those policies. If Harris had been elected, there would be millions more let in, and no deportations.
She said illegal immigration should be decriminalized.

Wrong again. Harris was an extension of Biden. She admitted to that fact. "Democrats" want a secure borders with a big open heart immigration policy that welcomes immigrants from all over the world just as most Republicans do.

Turn off your hate the other side news. We aren't anywhere near as divided as those controlling the messaging of our two political parties want you to believe we are. The more divided we are, the easier it is for our political parties to keep their sheep in line. Keeping the sheep in line is how awful entities remain in power. Stop falling for it so easily. We're better than this.

Technically, okay.

They are "unlawfully present" "aliens" - to be more exact under the U.S. code. And it is illegal to be unlawfully present.
