If you are a US born citizen and a working member of the upper middle class

I'm not saying you have to show your face. I'm asking why more people aren't protesting.

Because even though we did not vote for Trump, I am happy to see that at least 13 gang members were removed from my Maryland community. I am happy to see that my jewish child will be safe at the north-east college they are currently attending. I despice Trump, but I am not going to protest to put my family and my community in more danger like it was during the last administration.

Trump using (yes using) antisemitism to squash dissent in higher education will not make your Jewish child safer. Are you actually Jewish?

There won't be a decade of this. Things will soon either change at the polls or by other means.
. Dems keep thinking they can “use other means” to get rid of popular political opponents. But this makes Dems even less likey to succeed at the ballot box. Voters aren’t impressed by BLM terrorism or by Dem arsonists igniting Teslas.

Are those actually organized by Democrats? I am a registered Democrat, and I am watching carefully what is happening with my party. I have a lot of questions about how the Democratic party is organizing the current protests. We were always able to work out our policies by different ways and what is happening now is destroying our party. I afraid we are going to lose midterm election if the violence and protests continue.

What violence? Don't conflate peaceful demonstrations with unlawful violence.

Wowwww yes your community is WAY safer under Trump

+1 what about a trans child? What about legal immigrants? Yes, they all have reasons to be afraid.

I am legal immigrant and I have zero reasons to afraid.

There were plenty of violance and destructions during BLM protests. Violence against Tesla owners who are mostly democrats do not equal to peaceful demonstrations.

Risk of what, exactly? Do people think that Trump will be able to round up tens of millions of people who protested and, what... deport all these legal American citizens or throw them in prison? And the rest of the country will not rise up?

I’m a Black woman. Please reassure me — if you can — that if I’m one of the people that gets arrested, the rest of the country will “rise up”. Let’s start with you, PP. Are you and your friends going to notice that I’ve been arrested? Once you notice, will you come and find me from wherever I’ve been taken? I’m pretty sure that for all of my degrees and “upper middle class” interests, I’ll be left to rot. I’d like to think that I’m wrong though. Well?

I’m the PP. I did protest on April 5. I was one of the few non white protesters under the age of 55. I’m Asian-American and in my 40. My son protested with me and he was one of the few kids. I would like to protest April 19 but it seems like the nationwide event has been called off. But you are right. I would like to think that if you and I were hauled off, other American citizens would rise up.

Effective protest happens at polling stations. It doesn't happen when a bunch of unhinged so-called protesters and counter-protesters throw rocks at each other.

I attended a protest and it was the first I've attended in my life. There was no rock throwing. It was people standing up and demonstrating to the community, the state, the media, and the powers that be in this country and around the world that millions of people are not ok with what is going on. My child attended too.

But wasn't this the same message that you sent during the vote in November? Millions of people did not vote for Trump. This is not a new message. What was the point of you standing out there delivering the same message?

Because lots of Trump supporters straight up said they did not believe that he would do some of the things he is doing now. And some of those former supporters see the writing on the wall and came out to protest. Have you seen the pictures of tens of thousands of people protesting peacefully in Chicago, New York, and elsewhere?

I'm Asian American, naturalized citizen, and I agree with you. DH is also a naturalized citizen, white. We are both scared that any outward protest may result in a roundup, or at the least, harassment. We have kids. Truly scary times.

I've been a citizen for over 40 years and used to vote R.

You are playing into the fear. If millions like you stood up, the rest of the country would know that we won’t allow such things (round up, etc) to happen. Why are we not rising up about wrongful deportations? Nobody remembers the “First they came for… and I said nothing” story?

It's because they are lazy and want an excuse to stay home. I'm lazy too, but I'm not making an excuse.

It's easier for Trump to get Jeff's server logs and find haters than to investigate people showing up at protests.

Not really. Everything from the airport face scans to our driver’s license photos is digitized. It’s easy to match a picture of a protester with their photo database, and I doubt that they care about the significant risk of false positives when technology like that is used on POC. And now that our lifelong history of data with the IRS and Social Security is more accessible, matching up the data points will happen quickly— accurately or not.

Yes, we remember it. We also have many experiences with POC being punished for the same things that get overlooked in others. Trump and his white Christian Nationalists aren’t “playing”. It’s funny, PP, how you shift from “millions like YOU” when it comes to taking the risks to what “WE won’t allow”. Those for whom the risks are less certain need to be on the front lines for this one. We remember that bit. It’s often repeated by people who have no intention of risking their own well-being.

You are very wrong. Many of those deported to El Salvador were legal immigrants who broke no laws. If there is no due process we are all at risk but the immigrants especially.

Thank you for deciding for me what is safer and what is not for me and my family. i think I am highly capable to think for myself.

I was not talking about those who was deported. I am speaking for myself. I have zero reasons to afraid. If you want to publish a list of those legal immigrants who was deported to El Salvador, their entire immigration record and their criminal record, than we can talk. If you believe that one of them was wrongfully deported, pay the lawyer to defend them (there are hundreds of immigration lawyers in DC area who will be happy to help you).

I don’t protest because I’m not a temperamental 4 year old.
