we skip the rice when we are eating there and stick to chicken swarma, hummus, pitas, etc. for DD.

we haven't tried Austin Grill recently - will need to try that again...

and how is the wait at Jaleo if you go early...I haven't been in forever but remember it took a long time for plates to come out. Not a problem if it's just adults with some sangria in hand, but a little worried about waiting with kids...

Austin Grill (at least in Rockville) is very kid-friendly - I think there have been other kids in the restaurant almost every time we've been there, and that always makes us feel better. With our daughter in tow, we're always going for an early dinner, so we've never had a long wait. We were there on Friday to celebrate my husband's birthday, and plates came out pretty quickly - plus there's bread on the table, and that always keeps our daughter happy until the real food arrives.

Sorry, forgot to say I was referring to Jaleo on the wait time there!

LOL! My toddler also loves sitting through the three-hour meal experience at Komi.

Might want to try the tasting menu at Restaurant Eve - that is also about 3 hours. And really what toddler doesn't appreciate a good cocktail and a fabulous seven course meal.

Let's not forget our regular nights out at the Inn at Little Washington! Our 2 year old just adores the chef there, though he does find the decor a tad too conservative. Ah well...

Our toddler loves that cow for the cheese course, and the frou-frou decorating seems to be right up her alley-- always something to play with or look at.

we only take our 18mo DD there when we can sit at the chef's table - it keeps her entertained!

Mini-bar is my 2 yr old's favorite. She is generally well-behaved, though she complained that she found some of the presentations a little pedantic the last time we went.

We rarely go out to eat. And my son doesn't like pizza, so our favorite divey places are out. But when we do we tend to go to Silver Diner, Stray Cat, or yes...McDonalds.

Honestly, after seeing the "kids menu" at most restaurants, I don't think twice about going to McDonalds for an occasional meal. Some nuggets, milk and apple slices don't seem worse (and probably better) then a lot of the stuff at nicer restaurants. And then my son gets to run around and climb in the tubes. So it's a great bad weather lunch or dinner place. Ok, Ok, there is a germ factor. But I try not to obsess about germs.

Kids are 3 and 4.5. We like the bar area at Clyde's Tower Oaks, Bugaboo Creek, Austin Grill and Guapo's. Can't wait for Matchbox to open at Congressional Plaza!
