I'm the PP whose mom was told God gave her sister cancer by a Christian. Never once has an atheist told me God was punishing someone in my family who was ill. Meanwhile I very clearly remember Christians blaming natural disasters and plane crashes on sin.

Why did televangelists say the gays had caused Hurricane Katrina?

You can claim it's bad theology but it's absolutely people who call themselves Christians making these statements and not atheists.

The person who told my mom that her sister had cancer because of sin? Just someone trying to convert people to their brand of Christianity. Came in pretending to be comforting and then busted out the statement that someone must have sinned for my aunt to have gotten cancer.
