Will MCPS stand against ICE?

I’ve doesn’t care about that. There are plenty of kids in other states that came home to empty houses after ICE grabbed their caregivers.

It was not ICE. It was secret service. https://amp.cnn.com/cnn/2025/01/24/us/ice-agents-attempt-entry-into-chicago-elementary-school

They're children. You're absolutely vile.

Unlikely the children are illegal immigrants. Most likely the parents are, and the children are being taken in order to keep families together.

Would you rather have them take the parents and leave the children behind to fend for themselves? That's ridiculous.

If the children are not illegal immigrants then ICE cannot round them up. If the children are US citizens, they may be afforded the "opportunity" to be deported with their parents, but they cannot be forced to be deported. Parents can opt to arrange for kinship or guardian care or put them in the foster system. We do not deport US citizens, even those with illegal immigrant parents.

Oh what a great opportunity! Leave the only home you've ever known, or get separated from your parents! You're so noble to afford them that opportunity!

Bootlicker

Their parents created that scenario. ALL illegal immigrants understand that they are illegal and that deportation is a possibility, but they still thought it was worth it to take the chance.

Schools administrators should known exactly what is legally required and should make sure ICE follows those rules to the letter. They can do everything they legally can do to make ICE’s job harder within legal limits. I think it is shameful that ICE is now allowed access to schools. It is one thing to pick up illegal immigrants when they are released from prison and then deport them but something very else to stage round ups at schools.

So you prefer the legal aged gang members at these schools, who are likely selling drugs to your kids, to be left alone until they do something bad enough to get put in prison?

If there are gang members selling drugs at schools what I want is police involved. I do not care if they are here legally or not. Schools need to act to protect their students. It is illegal to sell drugs at schools. Or if there are gang members doing crime outside of school I want police involved. What I do not want is ICE in schools. Not sure how not wanting ICE staging on school grounds translates to wanting fault gang members selling drugs in schools.

Basically this order was created to put pressure on sanctuary jurisdictions to cooperate with ICE. If the County turns over criminals in jail, they do not need to be arrested in the community. How about you call your local government and ask them to increase cooperation with ICE detainers?

Frankly, if there are illegal gang members in the high school, I welcome their arrest, either at home or at school.

Can you imagine the liability on the school system if they facility the detention of a minor on an improperly founded arrest?! That is sure to create lawsuits worth millions of dollars. And without their parents present who would be unable to assert their rights for them.

People in this country have lost their minds if they think it is somehow "woke" to demand a warrant prior to police entry.

Nobody said let them in without a warrant Karen!

Actually somebody upthread accused Elrich of letting ICE do this in MoCo in the future. Hence the rather virulent responses.

You cannot put your kids in foster care. You realize how much putting all these kids in care would cost too?

And there are plenty of parents one rather that their kid follow a plan they have set for going to the safety of a friend, neighbor or family members than through the trauma of being grabbed by ICE.

We were all briefed and our office staff knows what to do. That door doesn't open without a warrant signed by a judge.

You all cannot keep kids from other schools from intruding and entering your building. There's no way you're going to keep out ICE.

The only way into our building without a key card is to be buzzed in at the main office door. We haven't had the problem of other kids entering, but for those schools that have, the kids are let in by other students. Getting your buddy to let you in is a lot different than ICE trying to sneak in.

This right here.

Most teachers and staff do NOT want to take a political stand that would land them handcuffed and in jail. We just want to teach.

Because these are children who will not have their parents with them to advocate. There are safe zones for a reason. Are you even a parent?
