Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS)
There absolutely are undocumented children in our schools. While it might be more common for the kids to be legal and the parents to be undocumented, there are plenty of undocumented kids in the system too. |
| Maybe MCPS should help families find ways to leave peacefully. A food drive to collect snacks for the plane. Clothing drive so they have weather appropriate clothing for their new destination. Luggage drive so they have a way to take their personal belongings. Farewell photos that all the kids can sign so they can remember their time spent with friends… |

Nothing prevents ICE from approaching children at a bus stop or walking home from the bus or school.
|
| How can they prevent it from happening? |
| ICE raids have not happened in schools. Doubt they will either. |
You are a vile creature. |
ICE has stated they’d pay for plane tickets out of here, families should embrace that rather than be arrested and have their kids taken out of school without saying goodbye to their friends. I see nothing vile about trying to protect the kids from the fear mongering that’s happening now. Kids move all the time for different reasons- people give going away parties, help them plan for the move, how is this any different? It’s up to parents to take the initiative and make arrangements to stay legally or make arrangements to leave willingly. If minors get pulled out of school that’s on the parents. |

This. |
If the children are not illegal immigrants then ICE cannot round them up. If the children are US citizens, they may be afforded the "opportunity" to be deported with their parents, but they cannot be forced to be deported. Parents can opt to arrange for kinship or guardian care or put them in the foster system. We do not deport US citizens, even those with illegal immigrant parents. |
| I'm just waiting for those expressing they DGAF here to come back in the future saying how their little snowflake was traumatized when agents raided their child's school. |
100% disagree. This ain't your Bush/Reagan ICE (INS). |
|
Of course school systems are not going to open their doors to ICE absent a warrant. When ICE applies for a warrant, a judge reviews facts and that ensures that there is a proper legal foundation for arrest.
Can you imagine the liability on the school system if they facility the detention of a minor on an improperly founded arrest?! That is sure to create lawsuits worth millions of dollars. And without their parents present who would be unable to assert their rights for them. People in this country have lost their minds if they think it is somehow "woke" to demand a warrant prior to police entry. |
Nobody said let them in without a warrant Karen! |
| I feel like this should go in the politics forum. |
