Why are activities cancelled?

MCPS will cancel these at the drop of a hat and has done for decades because it has a low impact on the vast majority of people and it's an easy way for them to play it safe and avoid liability. The decision-making is different than canceling actual instruction and the bar is much lower because there is pretty much only upside for them (e.g. some idiot crashes his Range Rover into a tree driving to an optional school play and sues them). Why anyone is surprised or upset is baffling to me.

Because high school sports are delayed enough and will be delayed all next week. A lot of games, meets, and matches cancelled today/tonight for absolutely no reason

Because none of that matters. Get some perspective.

Exactly

Oh Lordy, another sports-obsessed parent. It does you good to see that sports can be canceled and your life goes on.

Annoying amount of time off school or dead kids, which would you prefer.

You should never drive if you are scared of even the tiniest of percentages of anything ever happening.

Tell that to the parents of the dead child, you ass.

By your logic kids should not be taking busses at all and parents should escort them everywhere (technically I agree for young kids and we did until mid-high school). So, what's your excuse of not taking your kids and provide door-door service.

Your kid is much more likely to die in a school shooting than a bus accident. So you better start homeschooling.

Who cares. They’ve all already been rescheduled. We’ve got
The notice hours ago from our AD. Tickets were refunded. Good decision with absolutely no harm to anyone. Better not to have a bunch of new drivers on the road in bad weather. It was a good call.

1:5,000,000 (school shooting) vs 1:100,000,000 (bus accident) apparently. But really, anyone who eye-rolled at the activities cancellation... how do you feel about it today? I was driving from Silver Spring to Gaithersburg at 4-5:30pm Friday and there were a few periods of clarity. Most of it was not though. Pedestrians were invisible at times. Snow was sticking to roads and blurring lanes. On the ICC, traffic was moving at 30mph at the most, and other times much slower. I couldn't see my exit sign until well after the lane appeared. Can people drive in those conditions? Of course. Is it also a good idea to encourage people to NOT drive, and to reduce the reasons people would be on the roads at that time? Also yes, imo.
