Why are activities cancelled?

There’s always a complainer.

Our area is a joke lol

It’s all fun and games until your kid is still on the school bus at 6:30 pm. Then, y’all want to sue the district for not anticipating delays on local roads.

I’m the Baltimore county mom and our current temp is 39 degrees. It’s not even going to stick, if we do get this 35% chance of snow that occurs after all of the schools normal dismissal times

You absolutely must plan for this very real possibility.

Enjoy your family reunion this weekend, snowflakes

You keep saying 35% chance of snow, but honestly the chance of it and the amount of it are not that easy to predict. I think everyone errs on the side of caution. It wasn't long ago that a kid slid under a school bus in VA and died.

Annoying amount of time off school or dead kids, which would you prefer.

But the temps won’t go below 35 degrees so the roads will be wet.

I know, I didn't make that call. Apparently there is concern that a few squalls will be intense and impact visibility. These calls are very hard to make and please no one.

You should never drive if you are scared of even the tiniest of percentages of anything ever happening.

ALWAYS!

No one would complain if they didn’t cancel. Because the roads are warm and the percentage is low.

It’s ridiculous and you know it

This is so confusing. Got a message that all after school activities are canceled but then Bar-T says they are open at the school and that they follow MCPS. First time MCPS parent here. Does Bar-T usually stay open? Trying to avoid a situation where my kid is dismissed at the end of the school day and I’m not there to pick her up…

Our aftercare (KAH) typically stays open.

People always complain either way. There's no pleasing everyone.

People would 100% complain if they didn’t close and something happened on the roads.

People would also complain if they announced it later, if mcps waited longer to see if the weather changed. People would complain no matter what. Now that’s ridiculous and you know it.

A kid got hit by a driver trying to blow around a stopped school bus in Howard county a few years ago. I think we should just ban school busses to be safe. Or ban school entirely. I mean sometimes it rains and we know that rain decreases visibility. Better safe than sorry.

If you disagree with me it’s because you want children to die.

Bar-T is amazing and stays open as long as they can safely do so. They are many times also open on days that school is closed (but admin offices are open) like 2 hour delays etc. or other weather related days that are full day school closure. For up to date info, I'd email/text the coordinator at your school, look on the Bar-T website and/or Facebook page. I don't know what we'd do without Bar-T!
