Who is on the school bus at 6:30? |
Indeed. |
The MCPS website directly says “Daycare programs in school buildings will remain open as scheduled. ” |
|
Cold drizzle on warm roads is quite dangerous!!!
MCPS is embarrassing themselves |
They are trying to say if there is snow and busses go slow/delayed but there is NO snow right now and you can get your kid. Our sports are off campus, kids or parents drive. No need to cancel it. |
Drive your own kid, problem solved. If they cancel each time it rains, that still will not prevent bad driving. |
| It's after-school activities. MCPS will cancel these at the drop of a hat and has done for decades because it has a low impact on the vast majority of people and it's an easy way for them to play it safe and avoid liability. The decision-making is different than canceling actual instruction and the bar is much lower because there is pretty much only upside for them (e.g. some idiot crashes his Range Rover into a tree driving to an optional school play and sues them). Why anyone is surprised or upset is baffling to me. |
Because high school sports are delayed enough and will be delayed all next week. A lot of games, meets, and matches cancelled today/tonight for absolutely no reason |

From DC alert system, but same will apply for adjacent MoCo areas:
This is an important message from the District of Columbia AlertDC system. The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Snow Squall Warning for the District of Columbia until 4:15PM. HAZARD: Intense bursts of heavy snow. Gusty winds leading to blowing snow and visibility rapidly falling to less than one-quarter mile. Wind gusts up to 35 mph. IMPACT: Dangerous and life-threatening travel conditions are expected to develop rapidly in the warning area. This includes Interstate 95 in Maryland between mile markers 1 and 3. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS: Reduce speed and turn on headlights! During snow squalls, the visibility may suddenly drop to near zero in whiteout conditions. Consider avoiding or delaying travel until the snow squall passes your location. If you must travel, use extra caution and allow extra time. Rapid changes in visibility and slick road conditions may lead to accidents. |
Because none of that matters. Get some perspective. |
| Winter weather advisory from NWS. |
This was definitely happening near me for a little while. |
The latter point is a given. It seems like that would upset you. Why. |
It happened once when the roads got backed up and kindergartners ended up stuck on buses for hours. I think that was like 15 years ago. What’s extra aggravating is tjat groups that rent the facilities also can’t use them so activities that don’t use any McPS employees or buses also have to be cancelled, all through the county even where the snow is light. |
Tell that to the parents of the dead child, you ass. |
