Moco BOE
@mocoboe
The Montgomery County Board of Education will no longer post on X, formerly Twitter. We encourage you to follow us on Bluesky, Instagram, and Facebook. Thank you.

That's one way to NOT be transparent. The goal of the BOE should be to reach the greatest amount of people. Instead, they are throwing some type of political temper trantrum. If anyone doubts that the BOE isn't political, I have news for you.

Most legitimate organizations have quit X. It’s a cesspool. That is not a political move.

BOE is an elected position btw, by definition it’s political.

It’s odd that you believe X is still relevant.

It is objectively weird to pretend X is not extremely relevant. I dislike Musk but I am not delusional about the relevancy of X. If anything, the influence is growing.

It stopped being relevant when it the veracity of information cannot be trusted. This is like saying Russian troll farms are relevant since that's what you're getting from Twitter.

Oh come on. Russian troll farms don’t impact BOE posts. They can post their announcements there as easily as they can at other places.

Also, the idea that Twitter pre-Musk was this neutral source of truth is openly laughable.

Twitter, which used to be a neutral platform, has itself become highly political.

Exactly, which is why many people have already migrated to using BlueSky. I generally remember Twitter back in 2020 during COVID was more neutral until Elon made the bad decision to takeover the platform.

Is there a single Republican on BlueSky?

Who knows? Who cares? They’re certainly welcome. What are you driving at exactly?

Although BlueSky MAY technically be a neutral site I don't think any Republicans are on it. So nope no Republicans. Oh I forgot there are RINOs who could be there but no true Republicans.

(1) That's on them.
(2) So what? If Republicans don't want to be on Bluesky, then they can see the BoE social media posts on Facebook or Instagram, or they can use one of the multiple other forms of communication used by the BoE
Do you consider DCUM to be neutral?

Absolutely, it's an anonymous forum without editorial. The form is neutral. The people who post here may have their personal bias but it's simply personal.

You are wrong. This forum is heavily monitored and posts are frequently deleted when MCPS objects. Montgomery County pays for ads and funds this company.

I disagree. Jeff has definite biases, but I haven’t seen him protecting MCPS. I’ve been posting here for years and have not only been a consistent critic of the school system, but have seen countless others, as well. However harshly we bash MCPS on issues like safety, discipline, curriculum, grading/grade inflation, grouping, priorities, corruption, bad processes, problems with communication, limited support for specific groups, complaints about access to programs, etc., I haven’t seen any evidence that Jeff is censoring our complaints.

He does, however, enforce general site rules. If you post a link without commentary, sock puppet, use inappropriate language (profanity, racial slurs, etc.), post personal information about others, etc., that post will probably be reported and removed (regardless of whether it supported or criticized MCPS).

If they hadn't announced it, OP would have complained about politics and lack of transparency.

So instead they announced it, and OP complained about politics and lack of transparency.

OP here and I think they should post on both. The goal should be to reach the greatest amount of people, not less. Their twitter page has 10,000 followers. Bluesky has 25.

47 followers now, Dawn.

It's insane that they are posting on Twitter or Bluesky but not DCUM, where the local, relevant audience is, and where the website is easily accessible to the public.

Define “dumpster fire” on a social media site.

I would love for them to post as registered users so that we could have meaningful, substantial exchanges with board members.

X stopped being useful a long time ago. It's not a political move if most of the people who are interested in BOE news don't want to use a social media platform filled with bots.

These people don’t know the difference between political and partisan.

Doesn't matter. It's a cesspool, and we should steer clear.

They have phone systems in place that can deliver messages to parents, individually and en masse, as needed. They send home printed materials. They coordinate with local news agencies. Why do they need to be on social media at all?

You'd think they'd just use remind. Printed materials cost money and silly.
