According to Maryland FBI PG is not a done deal. And if should have major doing now ...https://marylandmatters.org/2024/11/07/congressional-lawmakers-remain-upbeat-over-state-projects-despite-shift-in-administrations/

Hogan R lost to Alsobrooks D from PG so he would have been the only 1 of 4 senators that was R. Assume Warner and Kaine will go for this FBI to VA unless they plan to pander.

Hogan, Kaine, and Warner pay local jurisdiction property taxes.

That article is light on details. How far along is the HQ move? If they are already actively building, it seems too late to make a change. If they are still drawing up plans and no contractors have been assigned, then change is indeed possible.

Amazing it takes so long...

I don’t think any contracts have been signed. And after that point it would still take a couple years or so to break ground.

Does the federal government own the land? I thought timeline for both sites (green belt/springfield) was identical and at least five years out.

That would reward Youngkin and we hates him, my Precious.

Why would Trump hate Youngkin? Sears plans to run for governor next year and she was a big supporter of Trump. That is in addition to the fact that the panel already recommended VA as the best site for the HQ.

I thikn WMATA owns it, but is going to give it to the Feds as part of a deal.

I just found this via web search. It appears Trump would like the FBI to have a gleaming new building in DC, ie not a simple renovation of the current brutalist building.

WMATA owns the land in PG. It would like to sell it to the federal government, not give it away. The official who selected PG, after the selection of Springfield by SMEs charged with selecting the best site for the Bureau's needs, worked for WMATA.

This was so clearly a backroom deal, I'm not even sure how this administration defended it publicly. Completely corrupt process.

Anyone with half a brain could see this coming from 100 miles away.

As a DC resident, I love to see them staying here in District!

DC is the best place for the FBI HQ - the FBI director meets with the President on a very regular basis. But the FBI wanted a big “campus” type of office like NSA, CIA etc. already have where there’s a lot of land and a security perimeter in the suburbs. I agree, the deal to send it to MD was shady.

Any ideas where this “new and spectacular building, in the best location” in the nation’s capital” could be?

No, the FBI Director hasn't met with the President regularly since Hoover. Not sure where you got the wrong idea on that.

They’ll put on Maryland Ave SW after eliminating the Dept of Ed and tearing down the LBJ Building.

Vivek Ramaswamy said he and Musk will eliminate the FBI (among many other federal agency closures). If that comes to pass maybe the GSA will finally sell that Brutalist building to a developer. And we’ll get the sidewalk cafes and street life for a renewed Pennsylvania Ave that Kennedy envisioned way back in the 1960s.

The Bureau won't be "eliminated". It's the investigative arm of DOJ, a function which has to exist for DOJ to function.

FBI exists under statutory authority. It cannot be eliminated except by an act of Congress.
