We get that your hatred of cars has led you to excusing the lawlessness of the moped drivers. |
Car drivers are the most law abiding people on the road. Look at the numbers. In 2022, there were 17 deaths attributed to cars. That's out of *billions* of trips taken. There were 15 deaths blamed on cyclists/scooters/pedestrians. How many people ride bikes or scooters in this city? Maybe 500? Maybe cyclists and moped drivers should learn how to ride safely. |
I literally almost got killed today by a car running a red light. |
Do you not understand that a car is more deadly than a moped? |
That's some unity there, Dump's unifying the nation already |
They are not. According to your logic cities are bad because they hold more people per square mile so more potential to run into a bad human that can hurt you. |
No. Actual studies say drivers are less likely to abide by road rules than bicyclists. You can easily find these studies with a simple Google search. But be forewarned that reality may necessarily not be in the business of affirming your silly prejudices. Funny that you cite 2022 data. Probably because you know that there were more road deaths in 2023 than in any year since 2007. A woman in my DV neighborhood was killed on a crosswalk - which she was crossing with the signal - by a driver who literally had thousands in outstanding unpaid fines. But she doesn’t matter, right, because she is only one person? And we shouldn’t worry about the driver either because s/he only accumulated a couple of dozen tickets out of tens of thousands of trips right up until the point where s/he killed someone. Moronic, bigoted blowhards like yourself make me absolutely sick. |
Always a hoot when those who can’t read properly take issue with what they believe to be “dumb” comments. |
This is better if you imagine it in Don LaFontaine’s voice. “In a world where moped drivers…” |
You shouldn’t even be posting if you’re this uniformed. |
+1 I work in Gallery Place and have almost been hit by one of these guys on K Street just north of Gallery. The guy ran a red light and turned left into a group of pedestrians. I do occasionally see cops parked at 5th and K, but when they are not there the moped drivers do whatever they want. I am not against making a living but am against driving into a group of pedestrians or driving on the sidewalk. |
The difference is that a car would kill all of them; a moped, much less likely. I watch traffic carefully and have not see the moped drivers (the Latino delivery drivers) ignore traffic lights but did almost get creamed by a driver turning on a red arrow yesterday. |
Well I have seen it many, many times all over downtown. They’re a menace to pedestrians. |
How often do the four ton murder machines obliterate entire families? Huh? Have you ever been hit by a moped going 30 mph? Do you think it's a walk in the park? |
Also, as someone who has had to go to ER after hitting my head in an accidental fall on the street in DC, I cannot even imagine how much it hurts to get hit by a moped, even one going 10-15 mph. It is absolutely not a minor thing to drive a moped toward pedestrians who are in a crosswalk. |
