This is BS political pandering. Realistically the president and congress have no time nor interest in actually running DC. If they did they might have already helped fill the significant judicial vacancies that are contributing to year or longer delay in trying cases. Let alone simply replace the current USAO. Oh and actually do something with the large RFK site but the random senator Daines from Montana blocked that in committee (because he doesn't care one iota about the DC residents who live near that parcel of land).
You’re right. Let’s just keep going with the status quo.
My point is that if you think DC is slow to respond, turn it over to the Feds and it will be even slower. If you think that federal control by people who answer to constituents in other states will expedite a better outlook for DC, I have a bridge to sell you. ALREADY, congress doesn't do sh*t to even help us with an unprescedented backlog of judicial appointees causing our court system to be bogged down such that we can barely try cases. GOP is the party of small and local government, but someone from Utah is going to give a sh*t about the concerns of DC residents in ward 8? My @ss. And yes, I also am fed up with the current DC government, but also fed up with how existing federal control of DC already has us at a standstill.
My guess is that this would be a major priority for Trump because it will show the entire country that it is possible to have safe cities and every Democrat mayor will look like a fool. The way he was able to mobilize federal assets to DC during the BLM riots was impressive.
The key is that it would be for a limited time as well. Just long enough to purge the existing power structure, and not long enough to ossify the new one. In a one party town like DC, this is the only way to clear out the junk.
