The Duke was hot, but gay, and it came through. And Daphne looked like a child.

Rege-Jean Page isn’t gay. Jonathan Bailey, who plays Anthony, is.

They both are. The latter is a far better actor though.

Agree with this. Also with the PPs who prefer season 2.

I'm loving the introvert story line.

Yes, I'm glad she's getting a possible suitor.

It’s more like the casting that’s laughable not the pairing. The actual story/book is very sweet. It’s just how they have upgraded him and downgraded her.

Is the Penelope character not obese in the book?

lol Nicola Coughlin is not obese, you dimwit.

?!

She is very obviously obese.

Doesn't mean she's a bad actress (she's fantastic, especially this season), or is ugly (she's adorable). But she is obese. If you think otherwise, then you probably need a reality check about your own size.

It’s hard to tell on screen and in gowns. I don’t know exactly how overweight she is, but either way she’s lovely.

Also, can we get Rege-Jean Page back on the cast? Whatever he wanted to do other than Bridgerton must not have panned out and I liked the show better with him around.

In the books, Simon and Daphne live in the country and only come to town to throw a ball every season.

I would call Nicola mid-size. Because the gowns don’t cinch at her waist, she looks a little rounder on the show.

I don’t really miss him.

+1, I agree with the poster who said she's midsized. I think she reads as heavier in the regency gowns because the style does not emphasize her waist and overplays her chest, which is large for her frame. But I follow her in Instagram and she's actually quite small, just with a big chest. I think the PPs calling her obese would be surprised if they met her in person and discovered she's probably smaller than they are. She's also 5'1", which only exacerbates the issue of the weight the camera and the costuming adds.

Here she is on a recent red carpet. She's naturally very curvy but not obese:

She is obese. Not morbidly obese, but still... clearly obese. And still a great actress.

I have mixed feelings about the first 4 episodes. I didn't love them. Some plot lines were better than others. Overall, I'd give it a B-.

SPOILERS AHEAD!!!

The bad:

Too many random characters detracting from the main story line. It feels like the show is trying to tell too many stories at once. Why on earth should I care about Francesca? Isn't this Pen/Colin's story line? Francesca has no personality and from what we do see, I certainly don't care enough to find out more about her. She is utterly boring. If she returned to the country to study music and we never see her again, it wouldn't even matter. It's also a bit jarring for Francesca to be played by a completely different actor. I understand why it happens, but for that character to now be such a main focus when they could've just focused on Pen/Colin instead is an odd choice for the show to make.

Not enough Eloise. It feels like we jumped from her debut right to Francesca's. She's been relegated to a side character and she's one of the few interesting ones.

It was stupid for Anthony and Kate to be present and then leave again. Lazy writing. I realize it probably had something to do with the actors' schedules but their decision to leave was inconsistent with their characters. Anthony goes from overbearing, super-serious, stress-burdened Viscount to freely walking away and putting the burden on others to enjoy an extended honeymoon? Come on.

Not enough Benedict. He was such an interesting character in Season 1 and it feels like he's been sidelined.

The Mondrich's story line seems unnecessary. They were the only working class characters in the entire show who weren't relegated to being servants. They were interesting and I liked their friendship with the Bridgertons.

The scenes jumped from one ball to the next. It actually got boring. Seasons 1 and 2 had more going on other than the balls.

The lighting was very weird. Some of the outdoor scenes were really badly lit, which doesn't make sense. Maybe it was intended to make it more glamorous?

Colin was a bit insufferable.

The good:

The costumes are beautiful.

The carriage scene.

The Queen, Lady D and Violet are enjoyable to watch.

I'm intrigued about the situation with Lady D and her brother--and his interest in Violet.

I found the Eloise/Cressida friendship interesting, and I liked seeing a different side of Cressida.

The Featheringtons are mildly amusing but even that got old after one episode.

And I realize the series is based on the books--and I know Francesca is a part of that--but they've already taken so much creative license in the series, why not streamline the characters and story lines? Might be a lot more interesting and consistent.

Obese is a clinical term and she fits it, though if you yourself are not clinically obese you might be surprised how small a person can be and still be considered obese. Midsized (14, 16, 18) is generally also obese for a shorter person like the beautiful Nicola (and like me.)

Penelope definitely should end up with Lord
Deblin, not Colin (currently on episode 4).
