| Good for the other kid, sticking up for an old man. Course with zero tolerance policies that kid will probably get in trouble rather than lauded for protecting an old man. |
| OP, is your dad part of a union? I’m a para and that would be the first step in our district. |
| Public schools have become so unsafe. |
| At our elementary school a 5th grade teacher was put on admin leave for the final 3 days of school last year and for some of the summer. For privacy reasons parents generally didn’t know why. He’s back this year and is my DD’s favorite teacher. She’d be so devastated if he weren’t at events like elementary school graduation. I’m sorry your dad is going through this and hope all’s resolved soon. |
Wow. People have not worked in a secondary school setting. Or only have mentally well adults in their lives. I taught in multiple schools across the SES spectrum. There is always a kid who is a little off and it may present itself differently, but it is not completely out of the realm that a kid could start making fun of and bullying a teachers aide. Especially an older one who seems vulnerable. The school needs to put him on admin leave. It doesn’t mean it’s his fault. They just need to cover themselves in case. (I don’t know that it’s not OP’s dad’s fault, but the fact that he’s on leave doesn’t mean it is his fault.) Agree with others who said to contact the union. Also, does he need this job? Is he getting benefits through this? He should be proactive if so. |
Reminds me of the Danish movie The Hunt. Sad topic, though a great movie. |
Teacher here. We have one bathroom downstairs for teachers and paras. That’s probably 40 people or so. If I waited, I could be waiting for a long time. It’s rare there isn’t a line and I’m not standing in it while the teacher next door watches both classes. |
