Wait, what? Do they have you use student bathrooms?

Yikes. At least use the single user bathroom then. Don't they need to have those by law?

Ah, yes victim blame. There’s no way this aggressive student would’ve threatened him any other time if he had just used the faculty bathroom .

Considering the adult is the one who is still on administrative leave, we don’t really know who the victim is.

I worked many years as a para and can't imagine what preceded this incident that caused this student to make fun of and engage in conflict with your dad. I never saw anything like this, most kids really like the paras and aides unless the adult does something mean or inappropriate or stupid, especially if they do that type of thing regularly. If there is a history of your dad being too harsh or teasing kids or whatever then I can see the admin response. It would also explain why your dad is reluctant to contact them. I think this situation goes beyond the specific incident.

I'm not saying the kid is not at fault but in my experience if a kid with a rep as a behavior problem started conflict with a well loved aide admin wouldn't be reacting like you say they are.

About a year ago the students started teasing him and calling some random name that isn’t his. Last Thursday he was using the restroom in between class periods when one of the boys started calling him this name while he was in the stall. Long story short the student kept threatening to fight my dad and kept asking my dad to hit him. Now according my dad he repeatedly told the boy he wasn’t going to hit him. Another student witnessed what was going on and shoved the other student out of my dad’s way - luckily everything was all caught on video (no audio). This kid immediately went and told a teacher that my dad tried to hit him. They admonished my dad for not telling admin what happened right away. Despite the boy having a history of behavioral issues they told him that he needed to go home. They said they would call and get a statement from him. This was last Thursday and they still haven’t contacted him….

I don’t know why my dad just hasn’t called them himself. I guess he’s afraid to find out? I have a bad feeling that they just won’t call him and let the school year end.

Anyone in admin or a teacher have experience with something like this? What are your thoughts?

Doesn't the teachers have their own bathrooms? My dh is a teacher and would never go to the same bathroom as the kids unless they were all gone. Now he has been pranked called by middle schoolers ( found his phone number) but, I told him to tell the principal right away and he wasn't disciplined because he hung up and told the principal.

Sorry your dad is going through this. Kids are tough these days

NP and we don’t have faculty bathrooms at my school either. My only choice is to use the same bathroom as the students. I’m very sorry this happened to your dad. I would suggest he contact the union or association rep even if he’s not a member. Better yet, apply for a new job. There’s a huge shortage of people willing to work in schools.

I’m one of the PP and it’s often flooded or occupied on my floor. Students go in it often and lock it to do whatever we don’t want to image they do. More besides use the bathroom unfortunately.

I am so confused. Your father was in the bathroom stall that is being used by students? This is NOT allowed. We sign agreements within our contract stating that we will not. In addition, how is this caught on camera if it is being filmed in the bathroom? This doesn’t make sense at all. Regardless, nothing he can do but wait until his administrative leave is over. HR will contact him letting him know his next steps. He should not contact them, as that was their instruction, and because it interferes with the investigation.

The consequences to the student over this alleged behavior could be tremendous. Kids are young and fragile. A child being disciplined can be very traumatizing and stunt their emotional growth.

Certainly no one wants that.

Can’t your dad just work somewhere else ?

Are you kidding? These children bullied him, and now at 70 years old you suggest he "just work somewhere else"? No. Not OP.

This is not the same in every school. Plenty of posts above by teachers explaining how in some schools the only restrooms available to teachers/staff are the student ones.

They ultimately admitted they were lying but the teacher took an early retirement. No punishment for these horrible girls but I hope their lives are miserable.

A girl falsely accused a male teacher near the end of the school year in our district. He was on leave for the rest of the school year (two weeks) and no students knew why at the time. She recanted. He came back for one year (because he was exonerated) then quit education to go to the private sector (computer science teacher).

I hope your dad is okay OP. I don't want to speculate on the circumstances like everyone else is doing. Just support him and let him know you're around.

Ah, yes victim blame. There’s no way this aggressive student would’ve threatened him any other time if he had just used the faculty bathroom .

But anyplace else would have probably been on camera.

There are cameras in classrooms?

If not cameras, there are around 15-20 witnesses.

This. Really interesting this all went down in the student bathrooms. Not victim blaming, not student shaming, just find it really interesting and convenient. Also agree with someone up thread that said it’s your dad still on leave, and not the student still suspended.
