Leaving a team mid year

Anonymous
everyone I know- including this family- switched clubs midyear because it was a terrible fit- either kids, coaches or both. Kids continued to play and the switch was the best decision.

One of my kids is on their 3rd clun at u16 and has no regrets- one was a mid season switch

proud card carrying member of the club hopping peer group

btw saying no regrets can just mean one has no conscience, not that the actions were honorable

We technically left midseason. We continued to play for both teams. The original club because they do a piss poor job with these kids didn't even realize it. They were completely oblivious.
It was a lot of soccer glad the season is done and we can just concentrate on one club now.

We're the comsumers, play where you want, but be willing to deal with some consequences. All things we're willing to risk cause you need to know your kids level. I cringe at the merely average palyers who club hop becuase they keep reaching to high, this just makes me sad for their time and wallets. Know your level, your role is a good life lesson for your kid too

commitment should go both ways. if coach says practices are important to determine rosters and many players only show up to one practice per week because of private school soccer and those players are still the starting players, coach does not follow through on his own words. warning: do not go to baltimore armour mls next u17 and u19 boys teams. only 11 play, only one goalie plays, and 3-4 get 10 minutes at end of second half

We are with SYC and they have kids who only come out to 2nd team practices 1x day per week, but they start and play most of every game. They are 'futures' players and get to attend both 1st team and 2nd team practices all they want and play double the games for the same price. We all pay 3k per year, but for 'futures' players, they show up 1x day per week and can play the whole game! Great for them, but it is a piss poor look for the club. "Practice attendance is important for play time!" Oh wait, you are a futures player? You can guest play for multiple team as possible! And play the whole game even though you only attended 1x practice this week! Mean while, everyone else who wants to get ahead has to pay for supplemental training, attend outside club practices, camps and clinics in order to keep up, while 'Futures' players get all the extra 1st, 2nd and playing up team opportunities as possible!

If my kid didn't like their teammates, we'd switch. It's a completely unfair, system. Oh wow, look at how much better the 'futures' players are getting! See, they deserve to be moved up. 'No, they work hard on their own, it's not all the 1st team practices and games they attend.' Your kid gets 2-3x 2nd team practices per week and they will never go any where; but look at the 'futures' kid! They get to practice 3-5x days per week with the 1st, 2nd teams and the older teams as much as they want! They should move up because they put in the work for the same price!

Yeah, sour grapes here, but SYC has a completely lopsided development program. I heard a lot of clubs have more of an open Academy program with equity. SYC has a closed/ segregated development program and unless you are on the 1st team, you will never get better in their program. #Readytoleavemidyear

If it makes you feel better, know that the coach on our club still doesn’t know the girls names. After 3 months. They have no clue who is or isn’t at practice. This is HS age.

We are in EDP league Girls U14.
We pay fees 3x a year not all upfront. One girl didn’t play last spring because of another sport but she’s back this year. Not black listed or anything. Guess it depends on the coach and reason.

To be clear, the future players are still attending practices as required? You are just upset that some of their practices are with the top team?

Not at SYC, but our club has futures as well. They do 2 practices with the top team and 2 with the 2nd team. Rosters are typically so large that they dont play any games with the top team.

What age is this?

We switched clubs specifically to play for one coach. This coach was the best coach at the club and coached 3 of their first level boys teams (ECNL-RL level)

Mid fall that coach announced he is leaving and they are replacing him with some random guy with no experience for all three teams.

If we did winter tryouts and found another team, can we just stop paying the first club? We are on an installment plan.

Very unlikely - they won't release your card if you aren't paid in full

Future players and 1st team players do not have it as good as you make it. It may seem like it from the outside. It's cut throat on the 1st team, all players fight for every playing minutes by proving themselves at every practices and games. The squad is 20+ without futures. Only 11 are on the field at any given time. The main squad is fighting for minutes so if you add in the futures, very unlikely they would get many minutes if at all. They don't get to play on the 1st team whenever they want. They wait to be called up and many don't get called up if you add up all the players. It's no fun but that's the reality. It takes a lot of personal commitment, training whenever and wherever you can get it to get onto the first time. That's just to get on it, then more work to stay on it and get minutes. It's not has glamourous as many think but that's the choice these boys make to play the sport they love and to go as far as they can.

If pp goes and plays for a different carding system, for instance they were ecnl and switched to mls next, the card doesn't need to be "released", right?

Probably not since it's a different league. But i guess you'll never return to the first club if you walk away like that.
