a secret
the coaches and clubs management all know each other in the dmv they know who the clubhoppers are and why, how you parted ways with the previous club |
It has to be easier to keep track of who is NOT a club hopper after U11-U12. |
I am guessing that most who leave mid year don't want to do the travel sport any more vs. hopping to another club, especially by the time kids are in HS. |
dont be quick to assume. there are abundant of reasons why a player might leave mid-season.

I was ready to leave our club for a different one in October last year after their terrible performance at 2 early season tournaments, where we either sand bagged in a tournament on purpose or get demolished in the 11th group in the WAGS tournament.
It was clear from observing the quality of some much better teams that our club hasn’t done a good job of development. We’ve been on the top team for 2 years and I feel like we stayed a year too long at our club. Now the skill sets of other top teams far exceed ours. This made me feel like we should switch as soon as possible and not finish out the season otherwise, we’d resign ourselves to mediocrity forever. |
Lies. Or they don't care. We left mid year from a third team at a big club. First team coach for next year at that club came knocking for pre tryouts ID sessions for our kid and a few others who'd left the year before. Clubs don't care why you left if you're kid is actually good. |
Generally this not the case. I am a coach at a travel club and have been for 3 years. At our club the communication level is fairly minor. And no one likes to gossip (we leave that for the parents). To say that I know all the coaches in the DMV and know the club hoppers and their back stories is complete nonsense. Kids leave the sport for all kids of reasons, and switch clubs for multiple reasons. Usually it's the right reason for them. I know plenty of coaches within my own club that I wouldn't want my kid playing for. Just do what you feel is best for your family, be upfront why you're leaving and maybe you and the old team will cross paths again in a season or two under bette circumstances! |
Them not caring doesn't mean they don't know |
| These soccer bro coaches care only about getting to their magic 15-16 roster number that guarantees their salary for the next year, and if the next showcase event is in a climate conducsive to getting to scheduling a tee time |
| Coaches will know if you are club hopping. |
club hopping is a red-flag 🚩 during the recruiting process for the biggest club in the area |
| Players recruit themselves. youth club hopping today is snynomous with the transfer portal. I don't agree with it but its just something else in sports like pay to play |
We all know those changing clubs as part of the growth and development process versus the permanently disgruntled running from one to another with toxic baggage |
LOL! But if a kid from another club shows up who is great, they are happy to add him to their team. |
Last time I checked, all new kids after U10 everywhere come from another team Club hopping is frequently jumping from one club to another. Not just changing clubs. |
