We are with SYC and they have kids who only come out to 2nd team practices 1x day per week, but they start and play most of every game.  They are 'futures' players and get to attend both 1st team and 2nd team practices all they want and play double the games for the same price.  We all pay 3k per year, but for 'futures' players, they show up 1x day per week and can play the whole game!  Great for them, but it is a piss poor look for the club. "Practice attendance is important for play time!"  Oh wait, you are a futures player? You can guest play for multiple team as possible! And play the whole game even though you only attended 1x practice this week!  Mean while, everyone else who wants to get ahead has to pay for supplemental training, attend outside club practices, camps and clinics in order to keep up, while 'Futures' players get all the extra 1st, 2nd and playing up team opportunities as possible!

If my kid didn't like their teammates, we'd switch. It's a completely unfair, system.  Oh wow, look at how much better the 'futures' players are getting! See, they deserve to be moved up.  'No, they work hard on their own, it's not all the 1st team practices and games they attend.'  Your kid gets 2-3x 2nd team practices per week and they will never go any where; but look at the 'futures' kid! They get to practice 3-5x days per week with the 1st, 2nd teams and the older teams as much as they want! They should move up because they put in the work for the same price!

Yeah, sour grapes here, but SYC has a completely lopsided development program. I heard a lot of clubs have more of an open Academy program with equity. SYC has a closed/ segregated development program and unless you are on the 1st team, you will never get better in their program. #Readytoleavemidyear

Future players and 1st team players do not have it as good as you make it.  It may seem like it from the outside. It's cut throat on the 1st team, all players fight for every playing minutes by proving themselves at every practices and games.  The squad is 20+ without futures.  Only 11 are on the field at any given time.  The main squad is fighting for minutes so if you add in the futures, very unlikely they would get many minutes if at all. They don't get to play on the 1st team whenever they want.  They wait to be called up and many don't get called up if you add up all the players.  It's no fun but that's the reality.  It takes a lot of personal commitment, training whenever and wherever you can get it to get onto the first time.  That's just to get on it, then more work  to stay on it and get minutes.  It's not has glamourous as many think but that's the choice these boys make to play the sport they love and to go as far as they can.[/quote]
