Enjoy the cake! |
| OP update: one kid and I ate a piece last night and nobody got sick. Long live cake! |
You know what else are good preservatives? The preservatives they put in cream cheese. |
Hooray! |
This doesn’t make any sense. Both are fine. I leave all cakes out on counter for days. Never an issue. |
A lot of members would be horrified at us. We leave our butter out in a butter dish all week. The horror! |
Woof. |
Southern Living says the cream cheese frosted cakes should be refrigerated after 2 hours unless the frosting is the shelf-stable type: https://www.southernliving.com/does-cream-cheese-frosting-need-to-be-refrigerated-8385177#:~:text=While%20the%20addition%20of%20butter,be%20put%20in%20the%20fridge. |
I agree. I'm late to this thread but would not leave a cake with homemade cream cheese frosting unrefrigerated. Also immune systems vary. Some people (elderly, pregnant, young kids) are more susceptible to food poisoning. So just because a 40-year mom and her 15-year-old kid can eat such a cake without getting sick doesn't mean this is a good idea. |
Yeah fine, this is the food safety standard. Absolutely you should adhere to this if you are selling the food or serving it to anyone very old or pregnant. But they don’t test cake, this is just the rule for all refrigerated foods. Mixed will all the sugar, the actual risk to the op is very very low. |

Do not waste that cake. I hate carrot cake, but you will incur a pox if you waste cake.
|
No, you’re wrong. It’s just that it’s more dangerous for a very old or pregnant person or baby to be sick. I mean obviously the OP and her kid not getting sick doesn’t mean anything about anything. The rules are just to minimize risk in a commercial setting. It’s not like something bad happens to your food after two hours. The rules are about minimizing the time food spends at a temperature where harmful bacteria can multiply. |
Chatgpt is planning to stalk your trashcan and get some of your cake. |
| If you throw it out, you're a little nuts. |
| Is OP the same type of person who will throw away a bottle of mustard from the fridge if they lose power for 7 hours? |
