Cake left our overnight

Anonymous
I accidentally left cream cheese out overnight, recently. I thought it would be okay, because it’s cheese, but when I googled, experts were saying it can only be left out safely for 2 hours.

I’m sorry about your cake.

As a general rule, it's not safe to consume perishable food items that have been left out at room temperature for an extended period, especially overnight. Cream cheese frosting, being dairy-based, is particularly susceptible to bacterial growth when left at room temperature.

Bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus and Salmonella can grow rapidly on food items like cream cheese frosting, leading to foodborne illness if consumed. Additionally, the moisture in carrot cake can create an environment conducive to bacterial growth.

To ensure food safety and prevent the risk of food poisoning, it's best to refrigerate perishable items like carrot cake with cream cheese frosting promptly. If the cake has been left out overnight, it's advisable to discard it to avoid potential health risks.

Hey Chatgpt, can I eat the homemade bread I left out overnight? No? It's perishable and will grow mold eventually. OMG, how did I survive without your wisdom?

This would never even have crossed my mind. We don't even keep cake in the fridge.

Toss that is disgusting. Are you all poor or impoverished? You seem to be if you are even considering keeping it.

Your knowledge of food safety is surpassed only by your grammatical skills, truly.

+ Also, we have money because we are thrifty. We don’t go around tossing perfectly good food, so there’s more to invest.

It’s fine, sugar is a good preservative.

OP, I don’t want anyone at your house to get sick. Understandably, your kids would be sad seeing the cake in your trash. Post your address and I’ll come and get the cake and dispose of it for you.

Eat it. It’s fine.

I would eat it myself to be sure, vs letting the kids have it.

And it’s usually a mixture of cream cheese and butter, too. It’s not like it’s the middle of summer and your kitchen is warm all night.

When you guys set butter and cream cheese on the counter overnight to soften it to use for baking the next day, you don’t consider that “poisonous” right? Why would this cake be any different?

This forum is bizarrely paranoid about food safety. The stuff yall throw out amazes me …
