Can someone explain BRF last names? I’m so confused.

Oh I love this!

Lottie is so cute.

Aw, that is cute.

Cousins Lili and Lottie — adorable.

The names are super cute.

Cute

Yes. But once Charles dies, William can strip her and her children of all of their titles and honors.

She will become Dowager Queen Camilla. That is the title given to the spouses of deceased kings. Queen Elizabeth’s mother was called the Queen Mother because she was the mother of the monarch and it also avoided confusion because they shared the same first name. Camilla is not William’s mother so she must be Dowager Queen Camilla.

It really is.

Reminds me of little German girls.

That's a good question. He was born HRH, Prince Henry of Wales. He was given three other titles on his wedding day, but up until then he was Wales. I'm not sure what would have happened if no titles had been given to him, but William apparently has used Montbatten-Windsor as a surname on French legal documents, so I think he would be Henry Montbatten-Windsor.

It gets even more confusing given the current Royals descend from the Saxe-Coburg and Gotha dynasty and from the Battenburg line. The names were changed to Windsor and Mountbatten in 1917 due to anti German sentiment during World War I.

Because it doesn’t really matter for them.

They probably have some kind of surname because so many things in life (school, passports, Amazon deliveries, plane tickets, credit cards etc) require a surname. It would be hard to be "William" at school when there are 40+ Williams at that school.

William cannot just strip her titles. It would take an act of parliament.

As far as the Dowager thing, yes she’s technically a Dowager but that hasn’t been used since Queen Adelaide in 1837. Neither Queen Mary nor Queen Alexandra used it. They simply went from HM The Queen to HM Queen Alexandra and HM Queen Alexandra. It’s unlikely that anything different will happen to Camilla. And William won’t want to pull that out of the trunk in the attic, however much he may personally dislike her. It sounds too old fashioned and that’s not what he wants to project.

I didn't think Camilla's children have any titles or honors?

They don’t but Charles reportedly set up trust funds for them. Not that they were poor to begin with.

She could decide not to use the Dowager portion of the title as others have done.

I can't imagine wanting a royal last name and titles from a family one has described as being racist on worldwide TV. Guess the family isn't really as bad as they stated. Or maybe they just wanted the money.

William’s kids now go by Wales after William became Prince of Wales.

No, he was Prince of Wales and became Duke of Cambridge upon his wedding. Same with Harry, first Prince of Wales and then Duke of Sussex.

NP. Charles was PoW until his mother died. Then he became King and he announced that Prince William was as now the Prince of Wales.

Yes, we are all aware of the simple-minded, binary thinking of M&H haters and royal apologists.

This may surprise you, but life is more nuanced than they want money or BRF isn’t bad.

You are so silly, PP.

No, Charles was Prince of Wales and his kids used Wales as their last names, but it wasn’t their title. Then William and Harry got Cambridge and Sussex as their own Titles and their kids used them as last names.

But when Charles became King, he passed the Prince of Wales title to William and since it’s a better title than Duke of Cambridge, his kids now use that at school.
